Strengths Weaknesses

Positives: Benford is a mature route runner with little wasted movement out of breaks. His cuts are exaggerated, and he appears to understand when to use the cornerback's balance against him. Fearless in traffic. Turns adequate speed into upfield production as a north and south runner. Tracks the ball well. Negatives: Below-average size for an outside receiver limits Benford's ability to make plays against physical defensive backs. Lacks strength off the line to consistently beat jamming corners. Tentative in traffic and rarely makes big plays.

03/31/2012 - Red Bank native, and former Tennessee Tech all-conference wideout Tim Benford models his game after New York Giants wideout Victor Cruz. Both slightly undersize, both from small schools. Only difference; Cruz has done it all, a Super Bowl ring and the stats to back it up. Benford is hoping to follow in those footsteps by improving his draft stock at UTC's pro day this Monday. "I mean it's a blessing to be in a situation you've been dreaming about your whole life," said Benford. The East-West Shrine Game, the NFL Combine. The past few months have been almost everything Benford has worked so hard for. His only issue, a rib injury limited him at the NFL Combine. Benford said, "the whole ride has been a roller coaster, up and down. It was frustrating but life goes on, you live and learn and make the best of it, that's all." Less than a month after the combine Benford did exactly that at Tennessee Tech's Pro Day posting an impressive 4.48 second 40 yard dash, but the work didn't stop there. Benford now feeling almost 100 percent is set for UTC's Pro Day where former Chattanooga quarterback B.J. Coleman will bring a little extra attention. "Just coming to my own city, hometown guys, what more can you ask for. Just come down the street from where I live to play pitch and catch all day. No you can't beat that," said Benford. Benford who led Tennessee Tech in every receiving category said the pressure is gone, a hometown pro day catching passes from a hometown quarterback, "I'm just gonna get up and go, it's just another day in the playground for me. No butterflies, it's just business." - Paul Shahen, WRCB TV 3 News
