04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Saints' picks: Round 5/162 -- Corey White, CB, 6-0, 206, Samford...Was rated as the 27th strong safety by NFLDraftScout.com, but the Saints see a lot of potential because of his 4.4 speed and leaping ability. COULD SURPRISE: Cornerback Corey White: The Saints certainly don't mind taking players from small schools and White, who has 4.4 speed and great leaping ability, filled the bill in the fifth round. Was projected by most scouts as a strong safety, but the Saints will put him at corner -- his college position. - The Sports Xchange

    Analysis
Positives: Thickly built player with solid overall muscle definition. Proved he belonged with the top athletes in the country by performing well during drills at the Combine. Good instincts and physicality as a run defender, which should aid in his transition to safety. Quickly reads run, slicing past blockers to stop ball-carriers at or near the line of scrimmage. Isn't afraid of bigger ball-carriers. Is a reliable, face-up, wrap tackler. Shows a burst to close downhill on the ball and has good hand-eye coordination for the interception recording seven over his career, including four as a senior. Negatives: A projection to safety, as he played cornerback throughout his collegiate career. Timed faster than he appears on tape. Is a beat slow out of his breaks and loses a step turning to run with wideouts even at this level. Did not dominate at the FCS level. Obvious level of competition questions and wasn't invited to any of the prominent all-star games to answer these concerns.
