Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Good-sized cornerback who brings strength - 22 reps at 225 pounds at the Scouting Combine. Can play off coverage, keeping receivers in front of him with the instincts to break on the ball. Also solid in man coverage. Kickoff return experience.

WEAKNESSES: Durability concerns as he recovers from ACL surgery last fall and subsequent setback that required a second surgery in February. Lacks bulk and strength to be real factor in run support. Mediocre ball skills.

Player Overview

Reaser is a no-question draft pick if healthy, but after tearing his ACL last fall, he had a setback from surgery and was sent home from the NFL Combine. He also was not able to participate in agility tests at his April 4 pro day. Regardless, some team will get a bargain.

A football and track star in high school, Reaser stayed close to home to play for the Owls. He played in 10 games in 2010, recording 26 tackles. He started all 12 games the following season, posting 61 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

As a junior, Reaser started 12 more games and come up with 45 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

He started the first six games of his senior season before tearing his left ACL in October. Reaser worked hard to prepare for the Combine, but doctors red-flagged his MRI. A subsequent evaluation by Dr. James Andrews revealed Reaser's body was rehecting the cadaver graft used in the first surgery, and he underwent a second surgery Feb. 27.

05/12/2014 - A closer look at the 49ers' picks: Round 5/170 -- Keith Reaser, CB, 5-10, Florida Atlantic...Reaser is a blazer, running a 4.32 40 at one point before tearing his ACL last fall. His knee wound up requiring two surgeries and is another candidate to spend the year on PUP and vying for a roster spot in 2015. The 49ers have made a habit of turning late-round defensive back into core players. They hope they can do the same with Reaser. - The Sports Xchange
