Player Overview

After an early season shoulder injury, McDougle's college career was over and although he wasn't able to participate in the Combine, he was healthy enough to show off his athleticism at his pro day.

"Once my injury happened, it was just tunnel vision from there," McDougle said after his pro day. "I've been preparing for this day. I saw most of the scouts at the combine. I wasn't really nervous. You know, you get the butterflies, but that wasn't really anything."

While he was unable to participate in the bench press, McDougle ran an unofficial 40-yard-dash time of 4.47 and tallied a 122-inch output in the broad jump.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: He's one of the better tackling defensive backs in the conference. McDougle does a nice job breaking down on the move and striking through his target to wrap and finish. His willingness in run support and ability to help on special teams coverage helps his pro chances.

WEAKNESSES: He has room to improve his footwork in man coverage, struggling to win after taking false steps or getting caught out of position with his overaggressive demeanor. McDougle needs to improve his reliability on an island.

05/12/2014 - A closer look at the Jets' picks: Round 3/80 -- Dexter McDougle, CB, 5-10, 196, Maryland...Cornerback may have been the Jets' most glaring need entering the draft, but McDougle -- who missed the final nine games of last season after shoulder surgery -- isn't likely to develop into another Darrelle Revis or Antonio Cromartie. Durability isn't as big a concern with McDougle as his height. - The Sports Xchange
