Strengths Weaknesses

Though his lack of preferred size limits his upside for the next level, Broomfield is instinctive, physical (he'll play some safety this year) and a natural playmaker. The combination of skills should earn the senior consideration on Day Three of the 2013 draft.

Player Overview

Just as Mississippi State defensive tackle Josh Boyd should have earned more national recognition for his play a season ago opposite Philadelphia Eagles 2012 first round pick Fletcher Cox, Broomfield has proven to be every bit the playmaker that All-SEC selection Johnthan Banks has been throughout their respective careers - and yet few outside of the state of Mississippi know of him.

To see Broomfield in person, scouts tell me it isn't difficult to understand why. They question if he's really the 5-10, 180 pounds that he's listed as by Mississippi State, but it is a few other numbers that are equally important to keep in mind with him -- nine career interceptions, three of which he's returned for touchdowns.

After redshirting in 2008, Broomfield began his Mississippi State career with a bang, intercepting six passes and earning Freshman All-American honors despite the fact that he only started three games on the season. He emerged as a starter opposite Banks a year later, intercepting three more passes and proving much more willing in run support than his size would indicate (52, including 4.5 for loss).

A hand injury last season contributed to his not recording an interception in 2011 but he still posted 59 tackles, including five for loss and a sack while also breaking up five passes.
