Strengths Weaknesses

Brown plays bigger than his frame suggests with a physical playing style and outstanding vertical. Brown has excellent ballskills and is highly competitive with the ball in the air, showing blanket cover skills and a nose for the ball. He has good overall experience, entering the 2012 season with 28 straight starts, and also ran track for the Cowboys. Although some will be quick to dismiss his pro potential because of his short stature, don't make the same mistake because his ballhawking ability and instincts are NFL-quality.

Player Overview

Although he can be easily overlooked because of his smaller frame (he's listed at 5-8), Brown is one of the better senior defensive backs in the conference. He finished third in the country last season in passes defended (20), giving him 31 for his career.

Brown was a little-known cornerback recruit out of Houston and received very little attention from FBS-level programs, redshirting for the Cowboys in 2008.

He saw little playing time as a freshman before earning a starting cornerback job as a sophomore in 2010, recording a career-high 77 tackles. Brown had his best season in 2011 as a junior (13 starts) with a team-best five interceptions (second in the Big 12) and conference-best 20 passes defended, earning All-America and All-Conference honors.

10/02/2012 - 10/01/12 NFL DRAFT SCOUT FALLER: CB BRODRICK BROWN, OKLAHOMA STATE...The Cowboys have a pair of talented cornerbacks with junior Justin Gilbert and senior Brodrick Brown on the outside. But both had their ups and downs in the loss to Texas Saturday night, especially Brown. Listed at just 5-8 and 185-pounds, he doesn't look like much and will make some plays that most his size can't, but his smaller stature was exposed several times against the Longhorns. In the run game, Brown was routinely washed out of the play by receivers on the perimeter as he struggled to disengage blocks. He is feisty and physical, never backing down, but his shorter arms show on tackle attempts, failing to consistently finish. Although he has swivel hips and very good short-area quickness, his long speed is also a question mark. Brown lined up in press coverage against the Longhorns, but allowed the receiver to gain a step and beat him downfield with pure speed, attracting a pass interference penalty as Brown started grabbing to prevent the big pass, never looking for the ball. His experience (32 straight starts) and competitiveness should earn him a third day draft pick, but his lack of ideal size and speed will always limit him at the next level. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
