04/21/2013 - Spencer Ware catches on at workout...LSU running back Spencer Ware worked out on campus on Friday, April 29. Ware ran indoors and on FieldTurf, and wasn't measured at the workout. He did weigh in at 229 pounds, though. As for his numbers, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 and 4.63 seconds. He posted a 34 inch vertical leap and a 10-foot-1/2 inch broad jump. In the short shuttle drill, he clocked in at 4.35 seconds, and completed the three-cone drill in 7.07 seconds. He opted not to lift, as he already had at LSU's pro day. Ware had a good workout on the day, and caught the ball exceptionally well. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

  • Overview
Ware was a dual-threat quarterback in high school who was a five-star recruit by Rivals.com. As a freshman at LSU, he played in 11 games as Stevan Ridley's backup and finished with 175 yards on 24 carries.

He started 10 of 13 games in 2011, leading the Tigers with 177 carries for 707 yards and scored a total of nine touchdowns. Ware also became the first LSU player to record one rushing and one receiving TD in the same game since Early Doucet did it against Tulane on Sept. 23, 2006

Ware was again the power option in LSU's backfield last season, but freshman Jeremy Hill emerged as the starter and Michael Ford was the speed back. Ware finished second on the team with 91 carries, but fourth in rushing yards with 358 while averaging 3.9 yards per carry.

He had just two games with double-digit carries and decided to leave LSU a year early. Ware wasn't invited to the combine and didn't run at LSU's pro day due to a hamstring injury. But he worked out on the LSU campus in late April and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 and 4.63 seconds.

    Analysis
Lacks top-end speed, running a very pedestrian 4.62 40-yard dash. Powerful runner who could carve his niche in the NFL as a short-yardage workhorse, but averaged just 3.9 yards per carry at LSU last season. Does possess versatility with good hands out of the backfield.
