Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Built well for the NFL with a tall, long frame and natural girth throughout, carrying his weight well?light feet and smooth lateral shuffle?good knee bend and sinks his hips to create a stout base?adequate snap reaction and set up quickness?nice job blocking in motion with good grip strength and aggressive hands to jolt and ride blockers past the pocket.

Flashes finishing toughness at the POA and looks to bury his man, eliminating his man?solid football intangibles and known as a hard worker, playing with consistent temperament from snap-to-snap?experienced resume as a three-year starter (40 career starts ? 36 RG, 4 RT), also seeing game snaps at center and practice snaps on the left side ? 2013 Miami Offensive MVP.

WEAKNESSES: Needs to stay balanced on his feet, extending and ending up on the ground too often?slow eyes and late to react, lacking the burst to quickly recover?doesn?t have the quick-twitch athleticism to mirror in space ? not the most natural second-level blocker?too reactionary and needs to improve his anticipation post-snap?suspect core strength and average muscle mass ? won?t overpower defenders.

Hand placement is too hit or miss, allowing his elbows to get too wide in his stance?the pads will rise at times due to his taller stature, allowing rushers to attack his breast plate and catch him off-guard?needs to do a better job with body angles to seal and cut off rushers.

Player Overview

A four-star OL recruit, Linder was heavily courted out of high school, choosing Miami (FL) over Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State. He saw the field as a true freshman in 2010, providing depth at each position on the OL.

Linder started every game the last three years, spending most of that time at RG, but also filling in at RT when Seantrel Henderson was out of the line-up, earning Second Team All-ACC honors as a senior.

He isn?t the most technically sound or athletic, but he has a natural wide base with enough shuffle quickness to be effective in a phone booth. Linder is a heady, alert player and won?t take plays off, but needs to speed up his awareness and recognition skills to better cut off rushers.

He has his flaws and it won?t always look visually appealing, but Linder has the makings of a versatile reserve who can fill in across the OL as a quality short-area blocker.

05/12/2014 - A closer look at the Jaguars' pick: Round 3/93 - Brandon Linder, RG, 6-6, 311, Miami...Physical, dependable, consistent, it's what the Jaguars like in the Miami lineman whom the Jaguars coached in the Senior Bowl. Linder started 42 games, including the last 37 of his career. The Jaguars wanted him so bad that they were willing to trade away a draft pick before Linder was taken by someone else. - The Sports Xchange
