12/15/2012 - Scouting the run defense: This has been a weakness for Arizona, which lacks size in its 3-3-5 defense. The Wildcats are 87th nationally in rushing defense, allowing 189.75 yards per game, and players even talked late in the season about how teams were likely to try to run the ball down their throats. Well, ASU did to the tune of 55 carries for 269 yards in beating Arizona in the regular-season finale. In fact, three of the UA's final four opponents rushed for at least 224 yards. Nevada, out of its Pistol offense, is inclined to run the ball anyway (averaging 260.0 yards per game) and its eyes will light up after seeing Arizona on tape. - The Sports Xchange

  • Overview
With the Wildcats switching to the 3-3-5 scheme in 2012, the safeties should be in position to make more plays.

Arizona has historically produced quality defensive backs. Their last first round pick, in fact, was cornerback Antoine Cason, selected by the San Diego Chargers in 2008.

While the oft-injured Adam Hall has flashed a intriguing combination of size and athleticism during his career with the Wildcats, Flowers emerged in his stead last year at the free safety position, registering 68 tackles, three tackles for loss, three pass breakups and an interception.

    Analysis
Though only entering his junior season, Flowers offers the size-speed ratio that scouts are looking for and should be in position to make more plays this season.
