Player Overview

Rettig has flown under the radar while playing for four different offensive coordinators during four seasons at Boston College. After throwing 35 touchdown passes against 31 interceptions entering 2013, Rettig was far more efficient as a senior in an Eagles offense that was run-based and set up play-action.

Rettig was forced into the starting role in the fourth game of his true freshman season and started 33 games at quarterback through his first three seasons. After getting harrassed constantly by pass rushers as a junior, the new offensive system in 2013 suited Rettig well. He completed 146 of 237 pass attempts (his fewest in three full seasons as a starter) for 17 touchdowns against only six interceptions.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Unselfish, resilient on-field leader. More efficient than prolific passer. Strong enough arm to make all throws on the NFL route tree. Quick delivery. He has adequate height and body build for the position and has all the arm strength needed for the next level, displaying sharp velocity as the ball appears to shoot off his arm. Rettig has improved his footwork in the pocket to step up and avoid pressure.

WEAKNESSES: Limited athlete and his lower half is too inconsistent in his throwing motion. Modest production in Boston College's run-heavy offense. Works better in a balanced offense that enables him the ability to thrive off play-action. Bad habit of staring down his targets and not effectively using his eyes to hold defenders with questionable field vision, struggling to see all 11 defenders. Rettig needs to develop better pocket awareness to protect against blindside pressure and improve his internal clock.
