Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Quick first step and plays with his hair on fire. Coordinated movements to cover in space, taking aggressive angles and arriving with a purpose. Thumper downhill with physical demeanor. Strong football character and leadership traits as a team captain. Productive two-year starter and led the Big 12 in tackles in 2013 with 133 stops, adding a dozen tackles for loss.

WEAKNESSES: Short and lacks ideal NFL size dimensions. Straight-line speed is average and doesn?t flash the closing burst or extra gear to consistently finish. Plays out of control and needs to add more patience and discipline to his game. Streaky anticipation and needs to do a better job recognizing his keys and putting himself in position to make plays.

Player Overview

George was a three-star recruit who played in nine games as a freshman and all 13 as a reserve in 2011.

He took over a starting job as a junior and was third on the team with 87 tackles to go with four tackles for loss and three pass break ups. That foreshadowed a senior season in which George earned first team All-Big 12 honors, leading the conference and ranking fourth nationally with an average of 11.1 tackles per game.

George earned an invitation to the Scouting Combine, where he posted a 4.83 40-yard dash and 28 reps on the 225-pound bench press. Disappointed with his timed speed, George ran again at his pro day and was clocked at a much better 4.66 seconds to go with 30 reps and a 38 1/2-inch vertical.

05/12/2014 - A closer look at the Jets' picks: Round 5/154 -- Jeremiah George, ILB, 5-11, 234, Iowa State...The Jets needed to get younger at inside linebacker, where David Harris is 30 and entering his eighth NFL season. George likely dropped because of his size, but he was productive as a collegian -- he led the Big 12 with 133 tackles last year -- and will get the chance to apprentice behind Harris, who is a free agent after 2014. - The Sports Xchange
