Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Thickly put together with good bulk throughout his frame - large lower body with thick hips...attacks the LOS and lowers his pads, driving forward with a strong leg drive...runs through contact with balance and toughness - runaway train when there's a hole and not an easy guy to tackle cleanly...gets his pads square and stays stout with good forward lean to fight off tacklers...runs angry and delivers hits...very physical and an effective short-yardage grinder - workhorse type.

Better lateral bounce than expected with good build-up speed...at his best when he accurately reads blocks and picks his way through the front-seven...willing in pass pro with good base and bend...extremely productive 2013 season and won the Doak Walker Award, finishing with 2,177 rushing yards (5th-best all-time for a single season in FBS) and 4th in the Heisman voting...intelligent player, both on and off the field.

WEAKNESSES: Big bodied and will struggle to make himself skinny through holes, slowing down at first contact and appearing hesitant at times at the LOS...lacks dynamic quickness to start/stop and get himself out of trouble on athleticism alone...has speed to break off big runs, but needs a few steps to get going...would like to see him break more tackles with his power...worn down late in games and overall durability is a question mark, toughing out several injuries in 2013...inconsistent awareness in pass protection and blitz pick-up...questionable ability as a pass catcher (10 career catches, none in 2013).

Player Overview

Williams saw limited playing time behind Montel Harris as a freshman and was an afterthought on streaky offensive teams the next two seasons.

He stepped up as a senior this past season and had a remarkable season with nine 100-yard, five 200-yard and one 300-yard performances and was a big reason for Boston College's improvement from 2012 (2-10) to 2013 (7-5).

Williams lacks special athletic traits and has a bad habit of slowing down at contact, but he has the power, toughness and feet to be a physical between-the-tackles pounder. He is tough and balanced to fight off defenders and pick up yards after contact. Williams has the lower body build and mentality to be a workhorse runner, but has also toughed his way through several nagging injuries.

A Shonn Greene-type of runner, Williams projects as a physical, reliable No. 2 back at the next level.

05/13/2014 - 2014 NFL DRAFT BEST VALUE PICK: NEW YORK GIANTS: Round 4/113 -- Andre Williams, RB, 5-11, 230, Boston College...With David Wilson's future in jeopardy, the Giants continued to protect themselves at the running back spot by adding Williams, who last season averaged 6.1 yards per carry (355 rushes for 2,177 yards) and scored 18 touchdowns. While not much of a pass receiver -- he had just 10 catches out of the backfield in his four-year collegiate career -- Williams believes he can rise to the occasion not just as a tough inside runner but also as a pass-blocker. - The Sports Xchange
