03/27/2012 - With the NFL draft on the horizon, ECU was welcomed on Thursday morning with a slew of NFL scouts looking for talent on Pirate soil. Pens scribbling, stopwatches clicking and a constant mumbling were the sounds that entertained the practice fields of the Pirates football complex. Criticism and intrigue surrounded the former ECU footballers as they ran through cones and performed drills for NFL scouts. Various scouts represented nearly half of the NFL, and even one scout for the Montreal Alouettes was in attendance for the former Pirates and their workouts. The initial attention surrounded record-breaking quarterback Dominique Davis and his wide receiver Lance Lewis, but that attention shifted focus when 6-foot-8 lineman Steven Baker took the field. The "unknown" left tackle had a physical prowess that impressed his possible future employers. "It doesn't matter where I land, as long as it is in the NFL. They all pay the same," he said. Baker's humility was pushed to the limit as he was showered with compliments from NFL teams when the spotlight shifted to him and his unique physical qualities.
