Hoobler was highly decorated out of high school, but wasn't viewed as a top recruit and was overlooked by almost every Big Ten program despite growing up in the geographical heart of the conference. After redshirting in 2010, he worked his way onto the field as a freshman last season, starting nine games on the strong side and registering 48 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble.
