Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Outstanding athlete who stood out at his pro day with a combination of size, length (33-inch arms) and speed. When he sees plays developing in front of him, has the speed to close quickly.

WEAKNESSES: Doesn't always play to his timed (4.39) speed. Doesn't tackle with a thump. Read and react skills need work, as receivers can eat up too much cushion before he adjusts. Average ball skills at best.

Player Overview

Balletine played all four years at Memphis, leaving the program with 141.5 career tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.

Not only does he look the part, but Ballentine backed up his film work with an outstanding pro day, producing a 4.39 40-yard dash, 38-inch vertical leap and 18 reps on the bench.

05/12/2014 - A closer look at the Texans' picks: Round 7/256 - Lonnie Ballentine, S, 6-3, 215, Memphis...Mr. Irrelevant will have to make the team as a special teams player. The defense already has depth at safety. He's got good size and excellent 4.4 speed, but he's limited in coverage and doesn't play the run very well. Has natural talent but has to learn to become a player who can cover. - The Sports Xchange
