- McGloin hopes his smarts get him NFL tryout...McGloin went from a walk-on out of West Scranton High School to the starting quarterback at Penn State and helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 8-4 season in Bill O'Brien's first year as the head coach. Now, all McGloin is hoping for is a chance to get in a NFL camp and prove he belongs. He took the first step on Monday performing in front of representatives from 25 teams at Penn State's pro day. "I thought I did the drills well and ran well," McGloin said. "My mechanics looked good and I threw some nice balls. I am my own worst critic. I just have to be patient and wait it out."
While he believes getting drafted is a long shot, McGloin believes some of his advantages are having a strong arm, his ability to throw the deep ball and having played a season under O'Brien, who brought the New England Patriots offense to Penn State. "I am definitely a cerebral quarterback," McGloin said. "I'll get in the playbook and check in and out of the right plays. My goal is to get in a camp and grasp the system. The feedback has been good. They all have enough film on me and they have seen what I have done in person. It is out of my hands and I have no control over what goes on." - Steve Bennett, The Citizens Voice
