Player Overview

A two-star LB recruit, Jackson was offered by Florida A&M and some other FCS-level schools, but his only FBS-level offer was from Western Kentucky.

After barely seeing the field as a true freshman, he emerged as a defensive leader as a sophomore in 2011, leading the team with 109 tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Jackson had his best season as a junior in 2012 with 122 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, but took a slight step back as a senior as his production dipped across the board.

He is a thumping tackler with a fiery demeanor, but needs to stay under control and play smart. Jackson has a productive resume for the next level and carries himself with the intensity needed at the next level, but the tight joints, overaggressive style and ?loose cannon? persona will push him down several draft boards ? projects as a possible back-up and special teams standout.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Bulky frame and thick hips, carrying his weight well?violent, attacking tackler with the competitive energy that coaches and other players notice ? seeks out contact and strikes through his target?decisive closing burst once he sees it, wasting little time?accurate timing as a blitzer with some raw, but natural pass rush ability. Violent hands to take on blocks and doesn?t look out-matched when asked to drop and cover the TE or RB?appears in much better shape than previous years with improved conditioning?team captain with infectious passion ? feeds off the doubters?three-year starter (34 career starts) with excellent career production, leaving school with 326 tackles, 42.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and 5 forced fumbles.

WEAKNESSES: Short and can get lost in a crowd?appears slimmer, but still has some bad weight on his frame and needs to stay in shape?tightly wound and doesn?t play loose, lacking the hip flexion to easily redirect his momentum?needs to do a better job protecting himself from blockers and doesn?t use his length properly.

Will sacrifice technique for the big hit and won?t consistently break down properly at the POA?bad habit of biting on fakes and too often caught just flowing with the action due to inconsistent backfield vision?needs to keep his emotions under control and is known as somewhat of a loose cannon, on and off the field ? above average passion, but needs to better control that intensity?one game suspension in Nov. 2013 for violating team rules and his football and personal maturity needs investigated.
