Player Overview

A four-star defensive end recruit out of high school, Newberry had teams lining up for his services, committing to Florida State and redshirting in 2011. He served as a reserve in 2012 before making the switch to tight end in 2013 (no receptions). Newberry returned to defense in 2014 and was a backup his final two seasons in Tallahassee, finishing with 21 tackles and 2.0 sacks as a senior in 2015.

Strengths Weaknesses

He moves well for his size with the lateral quickness to sidestep blocks with his eyes trained on the ball. Newberry also shows a knack for knocking down passes at the line of scrimmage (six passes defended in 2015), putting his long arms to good use. However, he is a good-sized athlete who hasn't yet figured out how to translate his talent to the football field.

Newberry, whose lone collegiate start came in 2013 at tight end, gives up leverage off the snap with high pads and doesn't understand how to use his hands to shed or free himself from blockers - long-term NFL project.
