Strengths Weaknesses

Bergeron runs low to the ground with good pad level and is at his best running downhill, not slowing down and keeping his legs pumping. However he shows some backfield hesitation reading the line of scrimmage and is a slow starter with little explosive qualities.

Bergeron can be easily caught from behind, but he's also quick-footed for a 230+ pounder and stays balanced with body power to work through arm tackles and absorb contact well. His blend of quickness and strength for his body type makes him an intriguing change of pace option in the NFL, especially at the goal line and short-yardage situations.

Player Overview

Texas has a three-man backfield, led by Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray, but Bergeron shouldn't be overlooked. He finished third on the team in rushing in 2013 with 386 yards, but had the best yards per carry average (5.0) of the trio.

08/18/2014 - Former Texas RB Joe Bergeron enrolls at Divison II school...Former Texas running back Joe Bergeron has found a new home. Bergeron has enrolled at Texas A&M-Commerce after being dismissed from Texas for undisclosed rules violations in late July. School spokesman Kevin Young told the Associated Press that Bergeron will be eligible to play this fall since it's a Division II school. Bergeron has one year of eligibility remaining and chose Texas A&M-Commerce because it's only 60 miles northeast of his home in Dallas. In his three seasons with the Longhorns Bergeron rushed for 1,392 yards and 25 touchdowns. - Tom Fornelli, CBSSports.com
