Virginia ranked among the best in the ACC in team tackles for loss (78) in 2014, but more than 66 percent of those stops behind the line of scrimmage belong to players no longer on the roster. Dean is the top returning starter in that category with eight tackles for loss in 2014, adding 40 tackles, 1.0 sack and four passes defended.
He has a tough time maneuvering through the trash and doesn't have the first step burst on tape that his measureables suggest. Although he can get lost in a crowd, Dean, who will be a team captain in 2015, plays stout and is rarely moved from his spot or put in reverse, anchoring down and occupying multiple blockers.
