Player Overview

Breslin exploded onto the Pac-12 in his first season after transferring in from Diablo Valley Community College. The undersized pass-rusher registered 62 tackles and led the team in tackles for loss (19.5) and sacks (13) to earn first-team all-conference accolades in his first season at the FCS level. The production was nothing new for Breslin, who recorded 28 sacks in his two seasons with the Vikings.

While Breslin was a star at defensive end under Monte Kiffin, he was asked to make the transition to outside linebacker in new defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast's 3-4 attack for 2013, and the move didn't slow him down a bit, as he posted 4.5 sacks and 8 tackles for loss in five games.

Unfortunately for Breslin, those five games would be all the action he would see for 2013 as he was plagued by ankle and hip injuries as well as a hernia, and later underwent surgery for the latter two.

Considering that Breslin's ability to rush the quarterback has been his greatest asset as an NFL prospect, the hip and ankle injuries could very well cause NFL teams to hesitate in the first three rounds, which is where his tape indicated he could have been selected. If he's able to fully rebound with no lingering effects, he could end up a mid-to-late round steal.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Possesses a short, stout frame, routinely gets a good jump off the snap and demonstrates the ability to dip at the edge and maintain balance through the corner turn. Maintains a low center of gravity and utilizes leverage against bigger tackles to put them on their heels and make it tough to disrupt his pursuit without grabbing.

Exhibits a strong closing burst once he clears the edge, and does a good job of extending and wrapping up his target. Flashes a quick spin back to the inside, and has adequate agility to redirect with suddenness. Makes good use of head fakes to change direction at the edge and create balance issues for opposing blockers. Good hand quickness to swim or rip back to the inside.

WEAKNESSES: Hip injury and hernia surgery cut his 2013 season short, limiting him to just five games and leaving many to wonder if there will be lasting impact on his explosiveness.

Size limitations and trouble handling the run make it tough to envision even a healthy Breslin being an every down three-point edge rusher at the next level. Struggles to disengage at the point of attack, and lacks the strength to consistently anchor against the run. Does not display power to move opposing blockers with a bull rush, and collapses at the elbow on contact too frequently, rendering him easy to control by strong tackles and even tight ends at times.
