Player Overview

As the two-time defending winner of the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter, it would seem logical that Hackett would be the first at his position selected in the 2016 NFL draft. He certainly has the production to back it up, including holding a school-record with 65 career punts of 50+ yards and four punts of 70+ yards.

Hackett boasts a strong, accurate leg but NFL teams are looking for more than that. Hackett's below average size and athleticism for the position and off-beat personality could make the native Australian's road to the NFL rockier than most.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: Consistent and powerful kicking leg, averaging 45.2 net yards over his career, including a career-high 48.0 yards in 2015. Quick to hand to foot catch, drop and kick with zero blocked punts over his career. Experienced punting out of the traditional alignment as well as in a "rugby style." Accurate directional kicker, showing good placement, trajectory and touch. Placed 43.2% of his career punts inside the 20 (102-of 236), including 48 inside the 10-yard line and 18 inside the 5-yard line. Clutch kicker with a knack for producing in big games, recording longs of 76 and 74 yards in 2015 against Oregon and Michigan, respectively. Holder for field goals and PATs.

WEAKNESSES: Possesses a short, somewhat stocky frame. Lacks ideal athleticism for fakes (though he successfully converted all three of his career rushing attempts for first downs) and for handling poorly placed snaps. Has a quirky personality that some clubs won't appreciate in an NFL locker room.

IN OUR VIEW: Quirky personality or not, Hackett is a powerful, accurate punter who deserves draft consideration. The fact that he was not invited to the Senior Bowl, however, is a sign that not everyone is a fan of his talents.
