Player Overview

Fields chose TCU over Oklahoma, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas A&M coming out of Fort Worth, Texas.

A player with the potential to be the top NFL prospect out of TCU since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2001, Fields burst onto the college scene as a true freshman, leading the team with 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. He earned Conference Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, but was suspended for the first two games of 2013 (unspecified violation of team rules) and saw limited action before a foot injury ended his season, earning a medical redshirt in 2013.

Fields was dismissed from the team during the 2014 offseason after his connection to a domestic violence incident and he wound up at Trinity Valley Community College last season before transferring to Louisville this past spring.

Strengths Weaknesses

STRENGTHS: He has above average athleticism for his size with excellent coordination and lower body flexibility to be quick off the ball and appear comfortable in space. He has the flexible body type to dip around the edge and contort his body to win the corner and cause holding calls.

He beats blocks with his natural athleticism as the game comes easy to him.

WEAKNESSES: Fields needs to develop his technique and strength and do a better job converting speed to power, but has the workable body type to continue and add muscle to his frame. His ball instincts are a tick late and on tape.

Has some off-field baggage that will require investigation from NFL teams, including a two-game suspension in 2013 and later being dismissed by the TCU program in 2014 for his role in a domestic violence incident.

IN OUR VIEW: When he's playing up to his ability, Fields is one of the top pass rush prospects in the country. A TCU transfer, Fields has some baggage, and teams will be forced to do a lot of homework on him.
