04/28/2009 - A closer look at the Saints' picks: Round 4/118 -- Stanley Arnoux, LB, 6-1, 240, Wake Forest...Can play inside or outside, although the Saints will likely try him on the outside since the middle of their defense is manned by Jonathan Vilma. Arnoux was valued by the Saints for his 4.56 speed, physicality and his reliability as a tackler.

04/24/2009 - Whichever team picks Arnoux will be getting a player who thinks he's ready for the NFL. Arnoux said he doesn't see many holes in his game, highlighting his sideline-to-sideline range and smarts ("I was a Dean's List student at Wake Forest, and I bring that into the football game.") as strengths. He wants to be able to recognize run or pass more quickly and learn shed blocks faster, though. But he'll have to wait until he hears his name called to see if NFL teams agree with that assessment. While he's waiting, Arnoux is likely to see a few teammates get picked. Curry is projected to go in the top 10, and Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith, who was a high school standout at Pahokee, could go in the first or second round. Arnoux, Curry and Smith were all roommates their junior year, and Arnoux said he'll be the first to call once they're drafted. "I'm not going to be calling them before they get picked because I don't want to jeopardize a team calling them or trying to reach them," he said. "But definitely after their picked, I'll be one of the first people calling them, at least leaving a message because I know how it's going to get." After that, he'll just wait for his turn. "Hopefully a team will come in there early," Arnoux said. "The earlier the better." - Zach Buchanan, South Florida Sun-Sentinel

      Overview

Outside linebacker Aaron Curry deserved the spotlight, but Arnoux, a four-year starter who never earned all-conference accolades, also received a Combine invitation. Considering that the 42-game starter leaves the Demon Deacons with 251 career stops, it's easy to see why. A steady presence in the middle, Arnoux lacks rare athleticism, but his reliable tackling between the hashes make him a late-round possibility for clubs in need of an inside thumper.

      Analysis

Positives: Short, squat frame to handle taking on and discarding blocks. … Plays with good overall physicality. … Reliable tackler between the hashes. … Flashes some pop as a hitter and can close in close quarters. … Better in coverage than his measureables indicate. … Gets surprising depth on his drops and reads the quarterback's eyes. … Team leader who made the Dean's list.

Negatives: Shorter than scouts would like and a bit round in the middle. … Lacks the instincts and quick first step preferred at the "Mike" 'backer position. … Takes a moment to recognize the action and is slow to flow toward the ball. … Lacks the straight-line speed to beat backs to the flanks and is a liability in coverage. … Lacks the lateral agility to consistently get around blockers in tight quarters, thus relying on his pop to disengage. … Needs an open lane to close when rushing the quarterback.
