01/27/2009 - Texas vs The Nation, Monday: Pitt center C.J. Davis and Penn State teammates LT Gerald Cadogan and LG Rich Ohrnberger played as though they were from the major programs. Cadogan's athleticism on the edge and Davis and Ohrnberger's mauling style inside were as expected. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com
Cadogan developed into one of the sound blocking technicians in the country, emerging in his senior year as a player who can add to the university's impressive record of producing solid pro offensive lineman.
While his exploits on the football field are impressive, he is also the 36th player in the Joe Paterno era to garner Academic All-American honors and only the sixth to receive that prestigious honor twice in a career (2006, '08).
The three-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference and Academic All-District II choice received a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the 2007 fall semester. With a full plate of football, academics and community outreach, he has still managed to excel with a double-major of Rehabilitation Services and Psychology, boasting a cumulative 3.68 grade point average for his career.
At Portsmouth High School, Cadogan served as team captain for both the football and swimming teams. He lettered in track and basketball. The Associated Press named him an All-State first-team selection after he registered 94 knockdown blocks during his senior campaign. After that season, he was selected to play in the 2004 Big 33 Classic and the Ohio North-South All-Star game.
Cadogan was a two-time All-Conference choice by the Youngstown Vindicator and was a finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman Trophy. He added the Portsmouth Daily Times Sportsman of the Year Award and was named the Ohio News Network Student Athlete of the Week. As a junior, he was named MVP of the swim team.
Cadogan enrolled at Penn State in 2004, performing on the scout team. He was a reserve left offensive tackle in 2005, playing in four games behind All-American Levi Brown. As a sophomore, he shared left guard duties with Robert Price, starting five of the team's first six games before sitting out the Outback Bowl vs. Tennessee.
Brown having graduated, Cadogan shifted to left tackle in 2007. The All-Big Ten Conference choice registered 71 knockdowns, as his 16 touchdown-resulting blocks were the second-best total in the league, topped only by Michigan's All-American tackle Jake Long (17), who was the first pick of the 2008 NFL Draft by Miami.
Cadogan was dominant as a senior. He joined Wisconsin All-American offensive tackle Joe Thomas (2006) as the only offensive linemen in league history to record seven blocking consistency grades of 90% or better in 2008. He led the team with an 89.54% blocking grade, producing 106 knockdowns/key blocks and 23 touchdown-resulting blocks.
Scouting Report
GENERAL REPORT: GRADE: 6.98
Body Structure: Cadogan is a long-limbed athlete with wide hips, thick thighs and calves, broad shoulders and adequate muscle definition. He is big-boned type who has room on his frame to carry at least another 20 pounds of bulk.
Athletic Ability: Shows good agility, but will use his frame as a crutch to lean into defenders. He has good foot speed and quickness getting out of his stance and runs with a normal stride, showing a strong concept for angles when working into the second level. He demonstrates the body control to hit on the move and on contact he delivers the strength and hand punch to shock and jolt his opponent. However, he will sometimes overextend reaching into a defender, especially when he gets narrow in his stance. He displays good change-of-direction agility, using his long arms effectively to pinch the defensive line back inside.
He has the straight-line speed to surprise a defender and has become a power-oriented blocker who has developed an aggressive nature. He is smooth coming out of his stance and has good lateral range. He maintains balance on the move and is efficient when having to redirect and recover working in-line. GRADE: 6.0
Football Sense: Cadogan is intelligent on and off the field. He excels in the classroom, garnering numerous academic honors at Penn State. That high intelligence translates to the football field, evident in his uncanny knack for being in the right position to stymie the blitz. It is rare to see him fooled by twists or games, and he's good adjusting to whatever the defender brings because he keeps his hands inside his frame for counter moves. GRADE: 7.7
Character: Cadogan is a model for other PSU linemen to emulate, both on and off the field. He is a hard worker whose ethic the coaches cite as the best on the team. He is a self-starter, very articulate and one that might not speak much, but lets his performances speak volumes. He has a great attitude and approach to the game and is a solid character type with no off-field issues. He is very well-respected by the coaches and takes well to hard coaching. GRADE: 7.7
Competitiveness: Highly competitive and will play until the whistle. He had a much more noticeable nasty streak this year in 2008. Earlier in his career, he showed a bit of hesitation in his play, and struggled to handle the blitz as an offensive guard. But, since the beginning of his senior season, you could see the fire and confidence in his ability that was slowly developing in 2007. He works to finish and will do whatever it takes to engage the defender with force. He has improved his hand punch to the point that he used it consistently as an effective weapon. With his improved intensity, you can see his spirit evident on every play. GRADE: 6.5
Work Habits: Worked hard in the 2008 offseason learning how to understand the game and he seems to have developed great confidence and field awareness. He is the type that will do the little things to succeed and has added good lower-body strength, thanks to putting in the extra hours in the weight room. He's a leverage blocker who needs little structure, as he takes well to hard coaching and his passion for the game has been a benefit for a team that has many young players looking up to him for leadership. GRADE: 7.0
ATHLETIC REPORT
GRADE: 6.19
Initial Quickness: Has timed speed and quickness to fire off the snap and get into a lethargic defender. He shows good adjustment skills on the move, but while he can accelerate and finish, he needs to continue improving on his ability to keep his pad level down. His level of play in 2008 was greatly improved, but did labor when having to go long distances on the second level. He has good balance and has made a solid effort to mirror when challenging defenders on the edge. Shows some explosiveness off the snap, getting into the defender with force and suddenness. He is quick to gain advantage, displaying proper knee bend and the flat back to unwind out of his stance with ease. With his 5.09 clocking in the 40-yard dash, he has good timed speed, but needs to show more consistent quick-twitch moves when isolated vs. edge rushers and might be a better fit playing inside at guard or on the right side at tackle. GRADE: 6.2
Lateral Movement: Shows a good concept for angles when playing in space and is effective at pinching the defense inside to generate big yardage for the outside running game. He has greatly improved his foot balance, showing better slide agility moving side-to-side in the small areas, but will get tall in his stance when having to run long distances. He can get a bit sloppy with his blocking angles upon departure, but he plays with good leverage to neutralize the defender. He will get straight-legged and too upright when trying to seal along the edge, making him more suited for an interior line position. GRADE: 5.6
Balance/Stays On Feet: Has the initial quickness to gain position on contact. He has the hand punch, long reach and strength to adjust, sustain and finish, but will leave his chest exposed when trying to gain advantage on the outside shoulder of a defender. He uses his size and upper-body strength to absorb smaller defenders. He works hard to stay on his feet, but must maintain a low pad level to be effective. He does a solid job of using his hands to tie up his opponent. Some teams might want to look at him as an offensive guard, feeling he gets too tall in his stance to be consistent playing on an island, as he still bends at the waist a bit and leans into interior defenders trying to maintain contact when moving laterally. GRADE: 6.0
Explosion/Pop: Can easily roll his hips, when he keeps his pads down, which allows him to generate good explosion on contact. He is a physical striker on the move when he keeps his hands inside his framework, adjusting to recover when beaten by an edge rusher. He has worked hard to generate a stronger hand punch and can accelerate to finish, but despite his foot speed, he is not as explosive as one might expect. When he sinks his hips, you can see much better sudden force with a surge to sustain. He has also improved his upper-body strength in order to consistently steer his man and hold and widen the rush lanes. He needs to continue working on shuffling his feet after making contact with edge rushers, as he stops and plants too early, making him susceptible to counter moves. GRADE: 6.3
Run Blocking: Has made a remarkable improvement in attempts to push the defense inside. He has become much more aggressive with his hand punch as a senior and has done a much better job of working the combo block, thanks to improved body control. He gains position well when he keeps his pads down, doing a nice job of walling off and widening rush lanes. Has better agility shuffling and moving his feet to sustain as a senior than in previous seasons. His balance and body control stand out on film, as he seems to be taking better angles to screen and gain good movement upon contact. He also shows the ability to be an adequate cut and reach blocker when he plays alert and doesn't narrow his base (in the past, he would get hesitant, making him look slow to engage). GRADE: 7.0
Pass Blocking: The team is more of a power-run offense, rarely throwing the ball in the fourth quarter, making it a bit predictable, but Cadogan shows the ability to recover and redirect in his pass set. He has better ability to sink his hips. Can sometimes get a little inconsistent with his punch (took lazy sets as a junior), but he gets to the collision point effectively. He shows above-average shuffle and is fluid on the move when having to mirror edge rushers or retreat to protect the pocket. As a senior, made marked improvement when he set up with quickness and a good anchor base. Had much better hand usage in 2008 than during his junior year and knows how to extend his long arms to adjust to counter moves. With his quickness and improved footwork, he should have no problem sliding and reaching his set point at the next level. GRADE: 6.8
Pulling/Trapping: Might be the area in which he needs the most improvement. He has good speed, but does get tall in his stance and narrows his base when blocking into the second level. He shows adequate body control on the move, but must be quicker adjusting in the open field. In order to become a more effective space blocker, he will need to improve his foot movement when working down the line of scrimmage and maintain the low pad level on the move that he shows in the trenches (gets narrow in his base when on the move). GRADE: 5.5
Adjust on Linebacker Downfield: Cadogan shows adequate ability to reach a linebacker downfield, but has improved these skills considerably as a senior. He has to stay lower in his pads to throw and cut block his opponent in the open, but does demonstrate awareness and effort to adjust on the move. He is still a work in progress when trying to chip and land on his target working into the second level. His ability to redirect and change direction makes him compensate in attempts to attack his man at the collision point. GRADE: 5.5
Use of Hands/Punch: One area of improvement that has resulted in great success for Cadogan. Perhaps more comfortable in his role and with his improved strength in 2008, the left tackle was very aggressive in putting the defender on the ground. Finally developed confidence in his reach and upper-body strength and is using his hands much better in attempts to shock and jolt. He flashes a strong punch and lock-out ability. He has enough quickness to recoil and recover inside. With his authority to control and adjust to defenders, he has had great success in widening rush lanes as a senior. His ability to get good placement when trying to sustain and extend is the result of being so much more active with his hands now than in the past. GRADE: 6.0
Reactions/Awareness: Keeps his head on a swivel, evident by his dominance in handling speedier edge rushers as a senior. He has the quick feet and has shown the ability to slide and adjust to in-line movement. When he keeps his pads down and shuffles his feet on contact, he is much more effective sliding to movement. You see on film he has confidence using his reach to cut off and his improved hand quickness allows him to readjust when working inside. In the past, he would play with some hesitation, especially when he missed the early counter moves. GRADE: 7.0
Compares To: JAMMAL BROWN, New Orleans -- Cadogan's quickness off the snap and confidence in his hands improved greatly in 2008. With his confidence gaining in leaps and bounds, he could be one of the bigger surprises among senior draft prospects, but might be a better fit at offensive guard or right tackle.
OVERALL GRADE: 6.32
Career Notes

2008 Game Analysis
Coastal Carolina The offense was firing on all cylinders in a 66-10 victory, amassing 594 yards, as Cadogan delivered seven knockdowns with two touchdown-resulting blocks in the first half alone Receiver Derrick Williams picked up 7 yards on a reverse around left tackle and Cadogan then took down defensive end Warren Jennings to spring tailback Evan Royster for a 7-yard score on first-&-goal for PSU's first touchdown in 2008 Midway through the opening frame, he leveled linebacker D.J. Rice as Royster turned the left corner for a 22-yard scamper. The tailback then used a hole created by his left tackle for a 2-yard touchdown run that capped an 80-yard, 5-play series In the second stanza, Stephon Green's 22-yard carry was the result of the left tackle making a second level block. That set up QB Daryll Clark's 5-yard scoring lob to Jordan Norwood Head to Head Competition-DE#97-Warren Jennings (6:03-259)-Two solo tackles Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded seven knockdowns, one down field block and two touchdown-resulting blocks, grading 90% Helped the team gain 334 yards with seven touchdowns on 43 carries (7.77 ypc), complete 19-of-26 passes for 260 yards with a score and gain 594 total yards on 69 plays (8.61 yards per play).
Oregon State PSU continued to dominate on offense in a 45-14 triumph, as Cadogan made a pair of touchdown-resulting blocks and did not allow any tackles, helping the Nittany Lions account for 454 yards He held off linebacker Keith Pankey on a 24-yard pass from QB Darryl Clark to tight end Mickey Shuler and then cleared a rush lane uised by the PSU passer on an 11-yard bootleg to the OSU 15. From there, Cadogan was out in front, opening a path for tailback Evan Royster's 15-yard scoring burst that finished an 8-play, 67-yard game-opening drive Royster used a block by Cadogan that upended rush end Slade Norris to break free for a 34-yard scamper. Later on that 70-yard, 5-play series, the left tackle shoved Norris to the ground, allowing Royster to score easily from 4 yards out early in the second frame With 5:50 left in the first half, Clark kept the ball on third-&-9, racing over left tackle for an 11-yard gain that set up the QB's 22-yard touchdown toss to Jordan Norwood two plays later In the post-game press conference, Cadogan was asked about his captaincy and if he and the other captains take the leadership role as an important factor in getting everyone together, responding, "It's the leadership of the seniors. Anytime you have something that goes like, as we call a storm, a distraction that means everyone has to bond together and step up and that's what we did today. It's a collective thing, the mindset and the goal. We're on a goal to go on a mission this season, and that's the goal for the national title. With that goal in mind, you put everything aside and you go after that goal Asked about the offensive line's performance vs. OSU, he stated, "I think we did good. We were able to run the ball, we gave the quarterback time to run the ball, and we put points on the board. I would say it was a pretty successful day. During the game we (line mates) kind of huddled around. We always talk about what plays will work if the linebackers are doing something we haven't practiced, just different odds and ends to sharpen things up." Asked to comment on if young quarterback Daryll Clark has put his stamp on this offense, he noted, "He stepped up in a leadership role, calling the plays and making things happen with his feet as you saw - it was third down and long and he was able to get some things done, that's how he stepped up." Head to Head Competition-DE#58-Slade Norris (6:03-247)-No tackles Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded six knockdowns and two touchdown-resulting blocks, grading 91% Helped the team gain 239 yards with four touchdowns on 38 carries (6.29 ypc), complete 14-of-27 passes for 215 yards, including two scores and gain 454 total yards on 65 plays (6.98 yards per play).
Syracuse For the third-straight game, the left tackle graded over 90% for blocking consistency, becoming the first PSU lineman to accomplish that feat since All-American offensive guard Steve Wisniewski in 1988. He generated a pair of touchdown-resulting blocks again, leading the charge as the Nittany Lions totaled 560 yards in a 55-13 win
Cadogan wasted no time in establishing his presence in the trenches, taking down line-backer Derrell Smith on tailback Evan Royster's 9-yard run on the first play from scrimmage He provided the protection needed for QB Darryl Clark, who hid behind his left tackle until finding Jordan Norwood with a first quarter 55-yard scoring bomb On third-&-17 from the PSU 37, he flattened defensive end Vincenzo Giruzzi, letting Clark have the time needed to hit Norwood with a 24-yard sideline pass for a first down Receiver Derrick Williams slipped through a rush lane created by Cadogan for a 14-yard gain on a reverse to the Syracuse 1 later in the first frame. On the next snap, Cadogan worked inside to spring Dan Lawlor for a 1-yard touchdown run that concluded a 62-yard, 10-play drive
Head to Head Competition-DE#30-Vincenzo Giruzzi (6:03-241)-Three assisted tackles Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded six knockdowns, one down field block and two touch-down-resulting blocks, grading 91% Helped the team gain 216 yards with two touch-downs on 43 carries (5.02 ypc), complete 20-of-39 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns, and gain 560 total yards on 82 plays (6.83 yards per play).
Temple The Nittany Lions exploded for a 45-3 victory, as their offensive juggernaut piled up 546 yards. Thanks to Cadogan's two touchdown-resulting blocks and nine knock-downs, the first unit amassed 308 yards with four touchdowns from their ground game The left tackle obliterated linebacker John Haley in the second level on a 27-yard jaunt by Stephon Green to the Temple 20. On the next snap, Cadogan pushed a pair of defenders away from Daryll Clark on the QB's 20-yard touchdown toss to Brett Brackett that ended an 80-yard, 6-play series at the start of the second quarter On the team's next drive, he leveled defensive tackle Terrance Knighton in the backfield, giving Clark room to flip a 19-yard pass to Derrick Williams. The left tackle capped that 68-yard, 6-play possession by opening a huge hole that tailback Evan Royster used en route to a 32-yard scoring scamper Continuing his dominance in the trenches during the second quarter, Cadogan held off defensive end Junior Galette long enough for Clark to find Deon Butler with a 49-yard deep pass. Two plays later, the left tackle upended Galette as Clark closed out the 77-yard drive with an 11-yard run into the end zone In the post-game press conference, the left tackle was asked how tough is it to see head coach Joe Paterno in the situation where he is struggling with walking and riding in a golf cart, and replied, "You never want to see your head coach and a great man have to struggle to walk and everything. But that hasn't deterred from his coaching. It's just the same old Joe, just at a slightly slower pace." He was also asked if the team is ready for the start of the Big Ten Conference schedule, as he stated, "Yeah we're ready. This is what we practice for every day. This wasn't our best game, but we're definitely ready for the Big Ten. We're taking this season one game at a time and that's the approach we're taking. We came out a little bit sluggish, but we were able to pick it up throughout the second quarter and the remainder of the game. We got to come out swinging and ready to roll ready to prove that we're a contender in the Big Ten this year." Talking about the impressive performance of young tailback Stephfon Green and how Green was able to follow Cadogan's lead throughout the game, the left tackle responded, "He did a great job today as far as hitting the holes and making people miss in the open field." Head to Head Competition-DE#99-Junior Galette (6:02-252)-Four tackles (2 solos) Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded nine knockdowns, one down field block and two touchdown-resulting blocks, grading 91% Helped the team gain 308 yards with four touchdowns on 45 carries (5.02 ypc), complete 18-of-31 passes for 238 yards and two scores, and gain 546 total yards on 76 plays (7.18 yards per play).
Illinois It was a game of first for the Nittany Lions. Receiver Derrick Williams became the first player in the Joe Paterno era to score on a reception, rushing attempt and a return in the same game, as Cadogan had a key block in both of Williams' offensive scores. The left tackle proved to be the catalyst behind PSU's 5-0 start, as he became the first Nittany Lion offensive lineman to grade over 90% for blocking consistency five times in the same season, leading the team to a 34-24 win, as he delivered ten knockdowns and had a pair of touchdown-resulting blocks for the fifth consecutive contest It was classic textbook blocking by the left tackle that simply frustrated the Illini's tough defensive front, as he put defensive end Doug Pilcher on the ground during tailback Evan Royster's 12-yard run and QB Darryl Clark's 15-yarder on back-to-back snaps. He then protected Clark on a 19-yard toss to Deon Butler and led the surge into the end zone with Clark in tow for a 1-yard touchdown run, ending a 73-yard, 8-play first quarter drive Derrick Williams used a cut block by Cadogan for a 6-yard gain on a reverse, as the left tackle then cleared a rush lane on third-&-2 for Clark's 6-yard run that set up the QB's 21-yard touchdown strike to Williams, concluding a 7-play, 81-yard late first quarter possession Early in the second quarter, Cadogan pinched a pair of defenders in-line, opening a path around left end for tailback Evan Royster's 37-yard scamper to the Illini 9. The drive stalled and PSU settled for a 25-yard field goal and a 24-14 lead Cadogan simply flattened Doug Picher and shoved linebacker Martez Wilson out of the way, as Williams took a handoff and raced 5 yards for a touchdown on a reverse in the first half Adding further insult to injury, the left tackle crunched Pilcher (who threw his helmet to the ground in disgust after the snap) to spring Clark for a 22-yard gain on a bootleg. Not done punishing Pilcher, he simply turned the defender around like a spinning top to give Clark time to loft a 16-yard crossing pass to Williams at the Illini 30. Cadogan pushed the defensive line inside, letting Royster bounce outside on a 7-yard run to the 17-yard marker. From there, Cadogan held off two defenders as Clark found tight end Andrew Quarless with a 17-yard touchdown pass that sealed the 38-24 win Head to Head Competition-DE#95-Doug Pilcher (6:05-266)-One assisted tackle Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded ten knockdowns, one down field block and two touchdown-resulting blocks, grading 97% Helped the team gain 241 yards with two touchdowns on 44 carries (5.48 ypc), complete 14-of-20 passes for 143 yards and one score, and gain 422 total yards on 64 plays (6.59 yards per play).
Purdue For the first time in 2008, the Nittany Lions failed to score 35 points in a game, but thanks to Cadogan's sixth-straight game with two touchdown-resulting blocks, PSU held on for a 20-6 victory Tailback Evan Royster was able to bounce outside for a 23-yard run after his left tackle took down defensive end Ryan Kerrigan on the play. Cadogan then pushed the defender inside, as the left side of the line cleared a path used by QB Daryll Clark for a 1-yard touchdown run on a gutsy fourth-&-goal snap, ending a 13-play, 72-yard possession early in the second quarter With 3:41 left in the first half, Cadogan was flagged for a false start and early in the third stanza, Kerrigan slipped into the backfield to sack Clark for a 6-yard loss at the Purdue 25. On the next snap, Cadogan exacted revenge, taking the legs out from underneath Kerrigan on Clark's third-&-17 toss to Deon Butler for a 23-yard gain to the Boilermakers 4. Cadogan then pounded his way into the end zone, as his massive paws ripped into a pair of defenders on Royster's 4-yard scoring burst to cap a 61-yard, 7-play drive Head to Head Competition-DE#94-Ryan Kerrigan (6:04-255)-Six tackles (3 solos), a 5-yard sack Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded eight knockdowns, one down field block and two touchdown-resulting blocks, grading 83% Helped the team gain 202 yards with two touchdowns on 40 carries (5.05 ypc), complete 18-of-26 passes for 220 yards and no scores, and gain 422 total yards on 66 plays (6.39 yards per play).
Wisconsin If anyone still thought Penn State's magical season was a fluke, all they need to ask is a battered Wisconsin defense how it felt in a 48-7 PSU victory. Anyone who still has not recognized Cadogan's dominance in the trenches need only check the countless grass stains on the jersey of All-American defensive end Matt Shaughnessy and his fellow defenders, as the Nittany Lions left tackle again made a pair of touchdown-resulting blocks to go with a season-high twelve knockdowns/key blocks At the start of the second quarter, Shaugnessy was introduced to the ground by Cadogan on a third-&-5 run by QB Daryll Clark that netted 9 yards to the Badgers 3. From there, Cadogan got his big mitts right into the face of a frustrated Shaughnessy, allowing Evan Royster to finish that 51-yard, 9-play series with a 2-yard scoring burst Shaugnessy looked like a spinning top in his feeble attempt to escape the grasp of Cadogan on Clark's 11-yard pass to Derrick Williams. The left tackle then flattened linebacker DeAndre Levy on Clark's 17-yard toss to Jordan Norwood. On first-&-goal, Cadogan pushed the Wisconsin front wall inside, letting Clark keep the ball and turn inside for a 4-yard touchdown run on the team's first series of the second half Counter moves and lots of prayers were no help to Shaughnessy, as he tried frantically to get into the backfield, only to find an immovable object in Cadogan in front of him on Clark's 14-yard throw to Stephfon Green that was downed at the Badgers 20. The drive stalled, but PSU settled for a 30-yard field goal and a 41-7 lead, as the first unit gave way to the Nittany Lions backups to gain some playing time Head to Head Competition-DE#92-Matt Shaughnessy (6:06-253)-Four solo tackles Offensive Impact-Cadogan recorded twelve knockdowns and two touchdown-resulting blocks, grading 92% Helped the team gain 106 yards with four touchdowns on 35 carries (3.03 ypc), complete 18-of-30 passes for 271 yards and one score, and gain 377 total yards on 65 plays (5.80 yards per play).
Michigan The Nittany Lions established themselves as the team to be reckoned with in the Big Ten Conference, as Cadogan put on a blocking clinic that saw him produce three touchdown-resulting blocks and key blocks that set up two other touchdown drives and two series that ended with field goals in a resounding 46-17 win The left tackle shoved defensive end Brandon Graham out of the way to spring Daryll Clark for a 10-yard run, but the QB turned the ball over on a fumble during that mid first quarter snap Undaunted, Cadogan clobbered defensive tackle Jason Kates on a bull rush, giving Clark a chance to flip an 8-yard pass to Derrick Williams at mid field. That set up tailback Evan Royster's 44-yard scoring scamper, as Cadogan upended defensive end Tim Jameson, allowing the PSU runner to cut back inside and break for the end zone on that long carry late in the first quarter Late in the second stanza, Cadogan pushed Graham into defensive tackle Terrance Taylor on Royster's 10-yard run, followed by clearing a rush lane that the runner used for a 14-yard gain on the next snap. Royster then ran for a first down on a second-&-2 attempt for 5 yards to the Michigan 5, as the left tackle took out defensive tackle Will Johnson on the play. That set up Clark's 3-yard touchdown toss to Justin Norwood that capped a 9-play, 74-yard series, as Cadogan held off Jameson from getting to Clark on that switch route, driving the defender into defensive tackle Mike Martin to give the PSU quarterback plenty of time to complete the pass The Penn State lineman was not done punishing the Wolverines' defensive line. On first-&-goal, receiver Derrick Williams bounced off Cadogan to pick up 5 yards on a reverse around left tackle to the Iowa 3, but the drive would stall and PSU settled for a 24-yard field goal to salvage some points from that 19-play, 71-yard first quarter series In the second quarter, Clark ran around the left side for a 13-yard gain, as Cadogan took down defensive tackle Matt Kroul on the play.
