02/07/2009 - The school's all-time leading rusher anticipated an invite to the NFL's showcase for perspective draftees, but Moore apparently won't be participating at the league Combine. Moore is bringing his Combine to Indianapolis and will be available for timing and testing at Sports Zone, 6601 Coffman Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268 on Thursday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m. "I want to make those scouts that said they didn't want to vote me in say that maybe they made a mistake." -- Moore, Star-Tribune

02/02/2009 - Top 15 players NOT invited to the NFL Combine: RB Devin Moore (Wyoming): It's very odd Moore was not invited to the Combine considering Steve Slaton's success as a rookie, even at 5-foot-9 and less than 200 pounds. He could also play some receiver and return kicks. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com

Overview

Moore's lack of size will hurt his draft status, but he has been productive as a runner, receiver and returner for the Cowboys. Moore's "Lightning" to Wynel Seldon's "Thunder" guided Wyoming's offense in 2008, as the first-team All-Mountain West performer rushed for 1,301 yards and seven scores while totaling 2,008 combined yards on offense and special teams. His speed, versatility and underrated toughness as a runner will be the key to his making it at the next level.

Analysis

Positives: Despite his small frame, Moore has some good upper-body definition. Excellent straight-line speed, and is able to burn by defenders once past the initial defensive surge. Can plant his foot and drive into a hole quickly on stretch plays. Solid hands out of the backfield, and can snatch the ball away from his body and quickly reach top speed after the catch. Good potential as a kickoff returner because of his speed, although he could improve his vision to find a cutback lane.

Negatives: May need to work his way into a pro position. Lacks the bulk to handle the pounding an NFL lead back takes each week, especially in short-yardage situations. Only adequate size in his hips and thighs, and will get knocked down by arm tackles of stronger pro linebackers. Needs experience running routes and must learn the other nuances of being a slot receiver if he is to succeed there. Looks a bit timid of contact at times, failing to adequately pick up blitzers or lower his pads to make extra yardage. Not necessarily a jitterbug runner or punt return candidate, as his tight hips prevent him from changing directions quickly in the open field.

2007 Season

Moore fell just 35 yards shy of a 1,000-yard season in 07, rushing for 965 yards. In addition to ranking among league and national leaders in rushing (fifth in the MWC, 58th in the NCAA) and all-purpose yards (seventh in MWC, 74th in NCAA), Moore also ranked 14th in the MWC in total offense (80.4 yards per game) and was 20th in the conference in scoring (3.50 points per game). He earned Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance versus Ohio. In that game, Moore rushed for a career high 198 yards and two touchdowns in Wyoming's 34-33 road victory. He also had three kickoff returns for 59 yards and caught four passes for five yards in that game to account for 262 all-purpose yards, which was also a career high.
