04/28/2009 - A closer look at the Bills' picks: Round 2/42 -- Jairus Byrd, CB/FS, 5-10, 207, Oregon...With free safety Ko Simpson falling out of favor, the Bills landed a top college cornerback who has the size and ball-hawking skills to project as a safety in the NFL. Byrd, son of former NFL Pro Bowler Gill Byrd, finished with 17 career interceptions for the Ducks, with 53 passes defended. He's a natural playmaker and a reliable tackler in the open field. Isn't a fierce hitter, however, and struggles to keep his hands free, which gets him into penalty trouble. Lack of straight-line closing speed limits his man coverage skills and makes him a better safety prospect.

04/28/2009 - CB Jairus Byrd of Oregon, Buffalo's second-round pick, has the genes to make it in the NFL. His dad, Gill, was a first-round pick of San Diego in 1983 and played in two Pro Bowls. His dad coached with Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell in St. Louis. "Coach Fewell and I go back to high school," Jairus Byrd said. "He watched me play in high school, so he definitely knows what I bring to the table. I'm just thankful for the opportunity. I think we're both pretty excited."
