12/31/2011 - Scouting the Northwestern run defense: Texas A&M offense played without leading tailback Cyrus Gray in its last game against Texas. The Aggies won't know Gary's status until close to the bowl game. Gray, who has a stress fracture in his shoulder, has a "50-50" chance at playing, according to interim coach Tim DeRuyter. Gray owns a team-high 1,045 rushing yards in 198 attempts in 11 games. The Aggies still have a capable running attack with Christine Michael, who has 899 yards rushing and eight rushing touchdowns. The Wildcats haven't been able to stop teams all season in the running game. Even if Gray doesn't play, Texas A&M will attack via the run given that the Wildcats have allowed 2,114 rushing yards in 12 games, allowing a whopping 176.2 yards per contest. - The Sports Xchange

09/02/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: DE Vince Browne - The second-team all-Big Ten pick has pro scouts believing he can be a rush end in a 4-3 set or an OLB in a 3-4 set. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound right end delivered 7 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss last season. - The Sports Xchange

09/02/2011 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: Northwestern's 4-3 defense has waited nine long months to prove last year's dismal finish (163 points and 1,670 yards allowed in the final three games) doesn't define the unit. With five new starters this year, the Wildcats have improved their overall speed and tried to emphasize forcing turnovers. Considering they averaged one per week in Big Ten play last year, it shouldn't take much to show improvement. DE Vince Browne and S Brian Peters are the prime-time players in this group, but watch out for DT Niko Mafuli. Long lauded for his potential, Mafuli shrank from 336 pounds to 305 to give himself the chance to stay on the field and be a difference-maker. - The Sports Xchange

08/10/2011 - 2011 PRESEASON TED HENDRICKS AWARD WATCH LIST: Vince Browne, Northwestern, has been named one of 35 players selected to the Ted Hendricks Award Watchlist for the 2011 college football season, honoring the nation's top defensive end. - The Ted Hendricks Award

07/13/2011 - 2011 ROTARY LOMBARDI AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Vince Browne, DE, Northwestern, (2nd Team All-Big 10, led team with 7 sacks in 2010), has been selected to the Rotary Lombardi Award Preseason watch list for the 2011 college football season. Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense of defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, and linebackers who set up no father than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. This is the 42nd year that the Rotary Lombardi Award has named the nation's college lineman of the year. - The Rotary Lombardi Award Committee

07/11/2011 - 2011 BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Vince Browne, Northwestern, DE, has been selected one of 87 players named to Preseason Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List for the 2011 college football season. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. Browne begins his final season NU ranked fifth all-time in career sacks (16.0) and ninth in tackles for loss (31.0) and was a second-team All-Big Ten selection last year. - Northwestern football

07/08/2011 - 2011 CHUCK BEDNARIK AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Vince Browne, Northwestern, DE, Sr., has been selected by the The Maxwell Football Club to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List for the 2011 college football season, given annually to the best defensive player. Browne begins his final season NU ranked fifth all-time in career sacks (16.0) and ninth in tackles for loss (31.0) and was a second-team All-Big Ten selection last year. He recently was tabbed No. 81 on Rivals.com's countdown of the top 100 college football players in the nation and like Persa was a preseason all-conference selection by The Sporting News. - Northwestern football

05/20/2011 - STARS OF 2011: DE Vince Browne - NFL scouts envisioning this high-motor pass rusher as a top target in the 2012 draft. The only Big Ten players who piled up better numbers than Browne's 7 sacks and 15.5 TFLs last year were Purdue's Ryan Kerrigan and Wisconsin's J.J. Watt. You might have heard of those all-Americans. - The Sports Xchange

05/20/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2011: DE Vince Browne - The redshirt junior earned second-team all-Big Ten honors from the media after posting a team-high 15.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Along with junior safety Brian Peters, they'll be the offseason leaders as the Wildcats try to solve their late-season defensive woes. - The Sports Xchange
