03/14/2012 - Penn State Pro Day: Cornerback Chaz Powell (6-1, 207) ran a 40-yard dash in the 4.4 range and broad-jumped 10-3, improving his NFL combine stats in both categories. Powell talked with scouts about the transformation he made from wide receiver to defensive back and was told he could play corner or safety in the NFL. He said pro day was "a walk in the park" compared to the stress of the combine but was confident about his chances in the draft. "It's been a great experience," he said. "The next level is tough to make and only the strong survive. I feel like if I stay focused keep working, stay out of trouble, anything can happen." - Jeff Reynolds, NFLDraftScout.com

01/02/2012 - Scouting the Penn State special teams: He missed the season's first two games for disciplinary reasons but sophomore Anthony Fera has since been a big boost to Penn State's kicking game (he is 14 of 17 on field goals) and punting unit (he averages 42 yards per punt with 10 punts of 50 yards or longer). The coverage teams have been sound, for the most part. Punt returner Justin Brown has had a couple of nice returns but is not a game-breaker and has shown a tendency to let the ball bounce for additional yardage. Chaz Powell averaged 28.3 yards per kickoff return. - The Sports Xchange
