04/30/2012 - Third-round pick Jake Bequette is the eighth defensive player from the SEC on the Patriots' roster and the second one (Hightower) selected in the 2012 draft. Coach Bill Belichick on trading a second-round pick for a third- and fifth-round selection (the former which was used to select Bequette): "Some trades looked better than others when you put them up against each other, but in all honesty, the picks are moving pretty quickly and we kind of focus more on what the opportunities were rather than sit around and analyze each one." - The Sports Xchange

04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Patriots' picks: Round 3/90 - Jake Bequette, DE, 6-5, 274, Arkansas...Similar to Hightower, Bequette can play both linebacker and defensive end, and he has tremendous size and wingspan at 6-5. This could be a tremendous value pick; Bequette was a two-time team captain at Arkansas and competed at a high level in the SEC, making him an attractive prospect in the third round. - The Sports Xchange

04/27/2012 - DE Jake Bequette, Arkansas -- A versatile Mike Vrabel-type with a defensive end's frame but enough agility and tenacity to get time at outside linebacker if the Patriots dabble in the 3-4 front as expected.

03/07/2012 - While Arkansas' trio of receivers garnered most of the attention Tuesday, pass rusher Jake Bequette also made news. Bequette informed scouts that he'd injured his pectoral muscle at the Combine and elected not to participate in measureable drills Tuesday. The 6-5, 274 pound defensive end did participate in linebacker drills, however, at the request of scouts from 3-4 teams. Bequette posted solid numbers in drills at the Combine but wasn't able to perform in the bench press drill there, either. He told scouts that he'll be scheduling a workout in which he'll do the bench press prior to the draft. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

03/07/2012 - Arkansas Pro day: Bequette worked out extensively at linebacker during drills once again for scouts, saying he was a "little surprised" how much work he received at the position. Bequette - who played linebacker during the Senior Bowl - said teams that play a 3-4 defense view him as an outside linebacker, while 4-3 teams view him as a defensive end. "It's a little bit awkward," Bequette said of his linebacker work. "I'm still working on it, still getting better. It's something I didn't really do full-time at Arkansas and if I want to do that in the NFL I've got to get much better at it." - Robbie Neiswanger, Arkansas News Bureau

02/15/2012 - Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino doesn't let many outsiders into practice but he did give two individuals access. Packers scout Alonzo Highsmith and Pittsburgh Steelers scout Kelvin Fisher both had sons that played for the Razorbacks. So both could watch practice. "Hopefully they were watching their son in one eye and watching me in the corner of their other eye," Bequette said. Bequette, currently projecting as a mid-round pick, is one of several defensive ends learning the outside linebacker position. After playing in front of Highsmith so long and meeting with Packers general manager Ted Thompson at the Senior Bowl, Bequette hopes Green Bay has a good sense for what kind of player he is. At Arkansas, Bequette finished third in school history with 23.5 sacks and 13th with 31.5 tackles for loss. In 2011, he was a first team All-SEC selection after posting 10 sacks in 10 starts. He missed three games to injury. Now, the 6-4, 264 end is preparing himself for linebacker as well. At the Senior Bowl, the Washington Redskins coaches used Bequette at outside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme. Bequette was disappointed that he didn't get to rush the passer a ton. Also, he said the Redskins' coaches used only three defensive calls all game, two of which put him in man coverage. Not ideal but the fast-and-furious experience at the position was what Bequette needed. "My first instinct is to rush up the field," Bequette said. "With this deal you have to be aware of more things when you're in coverage. I think it was good for me to get the other side of it. ...If you have the tight end man to man, you have him wherever he goes whether it's vertical, deep post or the corner. That's not something most outside linebackers do in a NFL system so I think it was much more difficult than it would be just covering a curl or a flat. It was good work and I'm glad I got it." - Tyler Dunne, The Journal Sentinel

09/28/2011 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: Arkansas has stepped it up defensively, but gave up too many big plays against Alabama. The Razorbacks are limiting opponents to just 115 yards a game rushing but are surrendering over 213 through the air. They have only two interceptions and five sacks, even though their first three games featured outings against an FCS opponent and winless New Mexico plus Troy from the Sun Belt Conference.
