04/02/2012 - UConn Pro day: UConn senior Kashif Moore also chose to stand by his tests at the NFL Combine, where his 43.5-inch vertical was the best among all wide receivers and a 4.42 time in the 40 was tied for 9th. Though undersized at 5-9, Moore's speed will land him at an NFL camp. Kicker Dave Teggart, the only other UConn player to be invited to the Combine, is a longshot to be drafted but like Moore will likely be signed as a free agent for NFL mini camps later this spring. The position of kicker is perhaps the most daunting for prospects. Teams only carry one on the roster, and their career span is the longest of any other position. "You're either the guy, or you're at home," Teggart said. "I know full well I have to go up against guys who like their job. I want that job too. It's me beating someone out to have a chance." Other UConn players tested were Wilburn, Agbor, offensive tackle Mike Ryan (who had 32 reps on the bench press), tailback Jonathan Jean-Louis, defensive tackle Twyon Martin. - Chip Malafronte, The New Haven Register

12/19/2011 - 2011 ALL-BIG EAST CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OT Mike Ryan, Connecticut, Sr., has been selected All-BIG EAST Conference Second Team for the 2011 college football season as chosen by the league's eight head coaches. Ryan was a steady presence on the offensive line to help RB Lyle McCombs to his 1,115 rushing yard totals. - Connecticut football

09/23/2011 - Connecticut shook up the offensive line against Iowa State, moving Jimmy Bennett to left tackle, shifting Mike Ryan from left to right tackle, and shifting Kevin Friend from right tackle to left guard. - The Sports Xchange

09/23/2011 - THIS WEEK'S GAME: Connecticut at Buffalo, Sept. 24 - It might seem strange, but Buffalo is arguably the traditional nonconference opponent for the Huskies. The teams played each other in 10 of the 11 seasons between 1995 and 2005 and met in the 2008 International Bowl, a game UConn won 38-20. The Huskies have won 10 of the last 11 games in the series. KEYS TO THE GAME: It's a broken record, but Connecticut has to get better play from its quarterback if it is going to beat a quality football team. Whether it's Johnny McEntee, Scott McCummings or Mike Nebrich, someone has to emerge as a reliable option who can move the ball down the field without turning the ball over or throwing it into the bench. And with Big East play looming, this has to happen sooner rather than later. PLAYERS TO WATCH: RT Mike Ryan - The offensive line had an uneven performance in the loss to Iowa State, in part because a lot of the pieces got shifted around. Ryan is one of those affected, as the senior moved from left to right tackle, and the adjustment did not go smoothly. He and the team are hoping for better this week. - The Sports Xchange

07/13/2011 - 2011 ROTARY LOMBARDI AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Mike Ryan, OT, U Conn, (1st Team All-Big East, 12 starts at right & left tackle), has been selected to the Rotary Lombardi Award Preseason watch list for the 2011 college football season. Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense of defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, and linebackers who set up no father than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. This is the 42nd year that the Rotary Lombardi Award has named the nation's college lineman of the year. - The Rotary Lombardi Award Committee
