03/25/2010 - PRO DAY RESULTS: It's not often that South Dakota State plays host to a large gathering of NFL scouts. With one draftable prospect and two others worthy of a look as rookie free agents, however, this year is different. Ten team representatives showed up, and the South Dakota State hosts were ecstatic to see such a large crowd. The workout was held indoors on a fast rubber track, while the posiiton drils took place on the basketball floor. DE/LB Danny Batten (6-foot-2 7/8, 246 pounds) ran a 4.71 and 4.73 in the 40-yard dash, had a 32 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump, a 4.05-second short shuttle, a 7.32-second three-cone drill and 30 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

02/19/2010 - The Bears have identified another player from the Texas vs. The Nation game that they would like to take a closer look at. The club is expected to bring in South Dakota State's Danny Batten for a pre-draft visit to Halas Hall in late March. Batten projects as a defensive end for the Bears, but may be considered as a linebacker by some teams, and excelled in some linebacker drills during the week of practice leading up to the game in El Paso, Texas.Batten, 6-4, 252 pounds, started as a freshman at South Dakota State and is the kind of undersized edge rusher the Bears like. Defensive end is a critical area of need for the Bears and they likely will add multiple players at the position through the draft and free agency. The Bears always like to have a developmental player at the position and Batten fits that profile, although the Bears thought the same thing about Mark Anderson in 2006 and he set a rookie franchise record with 12 sacks. - Brad Biggs, The Chicago Tribune

01/28/2010 - Former South Dakota State University standouts Danny Batten and Casey Knips have been selected to play in the Texas vs. the Nation college football all-star game next weekend. Both Batten and Knips are listed as members of the Texas squad, which will be coached by former Dallas Cowboys safety and special teams standout Bill Bates. Players will report to El Paso, Texas, on Sunday (Jan. 31) for a week of preparation that will include testing by National Football League scouts. The game is scheduled to be played at noon Mountain Time (1 p.m. Central) on Saturday, Feb. 6, with television coverage available through CBS College Sports (DirecTV Channel 613 and Dish Network Channel 152). Batten, a defensive end/outside linebacker from Gilbert, Ariz., led the Jackrabbits in both tackles for loss (17) and sacks (nine) during the 2009 season. STATS: 80 total tackles, 37 solo stops, 19.5 tackles for loss, 88 yards lost, 9 sacks, 10 quarterback hurries, 1 pass breakup, 1 forced fumble, 11 games played. Batten anchors South Dakota State's 16th-ranked defense, leading the team in sacks (tied for 12th in FCS), tackles for loss (tied for eighth nationally) and quarterback hurries. The senior had a career game against Minnesota, picking up 12 tackles, seven solo, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack in a close 16-13 loss. He had 10 tackles the week before against Southern Illinois in a matchup for the Missouri Valley championship. A solid, consistent performer who cracked the starting lineup as a true freshman, Batten had seven sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss and 75 total stops last season as South Dakota State made a run for a league championship and a playoff berth in its first season in the Missouri Valley Football Conference before finishing third. He added five quarterback hurries, one interception and one pass breakup. Batten was a first-team All-MVFC selection. He was a big part of a defense that helped SDSU to the Great West Conference title in 2007, with five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 67 total stops, two quarterback hurries, one blocked kick, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.
