03/22/2012 - Nevada Pro Day: While Matthews was the player that left scouts in attendance buzzing, he was far from the only Wolfpack prospect to enjoy a strong workout. Nevada boasts an intriguing collection of linebacker prospects. James Michael Johnson, who was able to participate in the Senior Bowl, largely sat on a solid performance at the Combine on Wednesday. The linebacker who stole the show, however, was Brandon Marshall, who at 6-1 (1/2) and 243 pounds was clocked in the low 4.6s in the 40-yard dash -- a full tenth of a second faster than his quickest hand-held time at the Combine (4.72). - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

12/24/2011 - Scouting the Nevada run defense: Nevada ranks 56th in the country in run defense, allowing 145.4 yards per game. That number is bit misleading as the Wolf Pack held three consecutive pass-happy teams to fewer than 60 rushing yards late in the season (New Mexico State, 48; Hawaii, 38; and Louisiana Tech, 57). But the Wolf Pack allowed 199 yards or more on the ground to Oregon, Texas Tech, Fresno State and Utah State. Linebackers Brandon M. Marshall and James-Michael Johnson were the team leaders in tackles during the regular season. Marshall had 96 and Johnson 87. - The Sports Xchange

09/08/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB James-Michael Johnson - The senior led the Wolf Pack in tackles last season in his first season at middle linebacker. He might be the most important defensive player for the Wolf Pack given the depth issues at linebacker. In addition to his tackles, Johnson had eight tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and forced three fumbles. - The Sports Xchange

07/18/2011 - 2011 BUTKUS AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: James-Michael Johnson, Nevada, has been selected one of 51 linebackers named to the 2011 Butkus Award Preseason Watch List for the 2011 college football season. The award is handed out annually to the top linebacker in college football. Johnson, a senior from Fairfield, Calif., is a two-time All-WAC performer at linebacker who served as a team captain last season as a junior. He led the team in tackles and was among the WAC leaders with 84 stops on the season. He registered eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks on the year while forcing three fumbles and recovering one. Johnson is one of just three players from the Western Athletic Conference on the watch list. - Nevada football

07/11/2011 - 2011 BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY PRESEASON WATCH LIST: James-Michael Johnson, Nevada, LB, has been selected one of 87 players named to Preseason Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List for the 2011 college football season. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. - Nevada football

07/10/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2011: LB James-Michael Johnson led the team in tackles with 84 as a junior in 2010. He also had a team-high three forced fumbles. He had eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Johnson needs to carry an even bigger role in 2011 as the Wolf Pack adjust to changes along the defensive front. Losing Dontay Moch, who had 22 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks, leaves a lot of plays that need to be made. - The Sports Xchange
