He spent a year following high school at Hargrave Military Academy after failing to qualify academically and his effort seemed to run hot and cold throughout his career. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

A native of New Bern, N.C., Reddick was a four-year starter at UNC and posted 36 career tackles for losses, which ranks fifth in school history. In 2012, he had 85 total tackles and finished the regular season first in the ACC and 14th in the country in tackles for losses per game (1.54). His 18.5 tackles for losses ranks eighth in UNC single-season history. - North Carolina football

10/23/2012 - OCT 22 NFL DRAFT SCOUT FALLER: LB KEVIN REDDICK, NORTH CAROLINA...Entering the 2012 season, Notre Dame middle linebacker Manti Te'o was the consensus No. 1 player at his position for the 2013 NFL Draft. But Kevin Reddick wasn't far behind in most rankings as he decided to pass up the NFL and return for his senior season. And while Te'o has lived up to his high-billing and just about cemented his first round value, Reddick has done the opposite, bringing up more questions than answers regarding his jump to the next level. Often used as a blitzer for the Tar Heels this season, Reddick has been impressive attacking downhill with 9.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, both ranking second on the team. But he has also made too many mistakes for a senior linebacker, two-time team captain and four-year starter. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

10/23/2012 - OCT 22 NFL DRAFT SCOUT FALLER: LB KEVIN REDDICK, NORTH CAROLINA...On Saturday in the loss to Duke, Reddick was guilty of a costly personal foul penalty in the first quarter inexplicably hitting the quarterback above the shoulders after he released the ball. He also got himself in trouble in coverage, playing too physical and hands-on. But the biggest reason Reddick has been a faller this season is his questionable effort on the field, too often giving up on plays once engaged and going at half-speed if the play isn't run directly at him. He rarely leaves the field so some of it might be fatigue, but inconsistent urgency and motor is a large concern that will force NFL teams to think twice on draft day. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

09/10/2012 - North Carolina was penalized eight times for 87 yards with several coming at crucial situations. A holding penalty against senior WR Erik Highsmith moved the Tar Heels from first-and-goal at the Wake 8-yard line back to the 18, and they eventually settled for a field goal. On the ensuing possession, a personal-foul penalty on junior S Tre Boston on a punt return moved the Heels back to their 16 from their 31. Earlier, a personal foul against senior LB Kevin Reddick gave the Deacons a first down after they had come up a yard short on third-and-nine at their 37-yard line. North Carolina's defense couldn't keep the Deacons out of the end zone on four trips into the red zone. The Tar Heels got points on all five of their trips inside Wake's 20, but two of their scores were field goals. - The Sports Xchange

09/06/2012 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: Carolina dominated Elon. Senior LB Kevin Reddick showed he is going to thrive in the new 4-2-5 scheme, and senior DT Sylvester Williams came up with two sacks. Junior CB Jabari Price had the only interception. PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Kevin Reddick -- The senior has the ability to make plays all over the field. - The Sports Xchange

07/27/2012 - 2012 PRESEASON ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE PRESEASON TEAM (MEDIA): LB Kevin Reddick, North Carolina (49), has been selected Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference football for the 2012 college football season by the ACC media. Reddick has been named to four preseason watch lists (Nagurski, Bednarik, Butkus, Lombardi. TOP FOUR VOTING BY POSITION (OVERALL, NAME, TEAM, VOTES): Linebacker: 1. Kevin Reddick, UNC, 49...2. Bruce Taylor, VT, 42...3. Steve Greer, UVa, 32...4. Jeremiah Attaochu, GT, 23...5. Kevin Pierre-Louis, BC, 19 - North Carolina football

07/24/2012 - When Larry Fedora arrived at North Carolina, he didn't just promise a fast-paced, exciting offense. He also brought an aggressive 4-2-5 defense - the same formation that Southern Miss used when it returned a BCS-record nine interceptions for touchdowns under Fedora last season. After watching tape of Southern Miss, UNC senior linebacker Kevin Reddick said that the offense wouldn't be the only unit that will be in attack mode this season. "I haven't seen anything like that in a while," Reddick said at Sunday's ACC Football Kickoff. "Everyone flying around, making plays. I'm glad they brought that defense to us. They had good athletes (at Southern Miss) but I feel like we have better athletes, so I feel like we should be able to do that." Though he's made 145 tackles over the last two seasons, Reddick chose to come back to UNC for his senior year instead of enter the NFL draft because he didn't feel like he made enough plays. Being in the middle of the 4-2-5 should give him plenty of opportunities to rectify that deficiency. "I'm excited to play in this new defense," Reddick said. "I just can't wait to start playing it in games. They have me coming from everywhere, so it's going to be fun to see how it turns out." - Harold Gutmann, The Herald-Sun

07/23/2012 - Last season, Reddick finished second on the team with 71 tackles playing in a more traditional 4-3 set. But after Fedora was hired and sanctions were handed down to the program, Reddick says he was contacted by coaches at other schools to see if he would be interested in transferring. He declined, because he saw the opportunities Disch will give him in this new defensive scheme. Reddick will play inside, but he will also be used to blitz from the outside, something he has not been asked to do previously. "There's going to be a lot of plays for me, I just have to make them," he said. "That's why I stayed. I had an opportunity to go to other colleges but I stayed. I wanted to experience this. I like this defense, and I feel it was based a little around me." Reddick also believes the new scheme will help mitigate the loss of leading tackler Zach Brown, first-round pick Quinton Couples and four other starters. Because other players will be put into positions to do different things, versatility will be emphasized more. As an example, Reddick mentioned defensive end Dion Guy can line up with his hand on the ground but also drop back into coverage as a third linebacker at times. In order to really prepare for his new and expanded role, Reddick took to watching lots of game tape, while also studying plays on his computer. So why does he think North Carolina has an opportunity to make an impact with a scheme that is is not among the most popular? "For us, being that other teams are used to seeing the pro-style defense from us and we're going to bring this different defense to them, it's going to be a shock to them," he said. "As far as guys seeing things coming from different places it's going to be a shock to other teams in the league." - Andrea Adelson, ESPN

06/21/2012 - Top-five North Carolina prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 3. MLB Kevin Reddick (6-3, 240)...Over the last two years, three North Carolina linebackers have been drafted (Zach Brown, Bruce Carter, Quan Sturdivant). And Reddick, who is the Tar Heels' top defensive prospect, will be the next talented linebacker to hear his name on draft weekend. Entering his fourth season as the starter at MIKE linebacker, he finished second on the team in tackles last season. Reddick, who was a four-star recruit out of high school, chose North Carolina over Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. After he spent a season at a prep school to improve his grades, Reddick arrived at North Carolina and immediately earned a starting job, starting 20 games over his freshman and sophomore seasons. He battled injuries in 2011, but started 11 games and still finished second on the team with 71 tackles. Reddick is an impressive athlete and strong, physical tackler. He is a bit straight-linish and stiff, but makes up for his lack of fluidity with his instincts and defensive intelligence, putting himself in positions to succeed. Reddick has the skill-set to earn a starting job in the NFL and currently projects as a solid second day selection. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
