03/08/2013 - 2013 Nebraska Pro Day: Although kicker Brett Maher already had a strong performance at the NFL Combine, hitting 14 of 15 field goals, he did nothing to hurt himself Thursday, making all 10 of his field goals and kicking off well, he said. "I'm kicking really well right now," said Maher, who watched other Huskers work out on one end of the Hawks, wheeled a duffel bag of footballs to the other end, and worked alone for scouts. "Kicked well today, kicked well at the Combine. Kicked off really well today. Put a couple back on the end line. Just feel good with how the ball is coming off my foot." Maher will meet with NFL teams soon, but declined to name them. 01/01/2013 - Scouting the Nebraska special teams: Senior K Brett Maher has been the only bright spot for a special teams that hasn't made many big plays and has been known to commit a debilitating blunder here and there. Senior Rex Burkhead was back to return punts in the Big Ten Championship game, giving some stability on a unit that has fumbled and lost five punt returns. 09/11/2012 - LOOKING GOOD: Taylor Martinez showed the same speed and burst of his true freshman season two years ago before a severe ankle injury. He went untouched on his 92-yard run, when he perfectly executed a zone read play and darted through a hole at the line of scrimmage. He also threw a couple of key blocks on both of running back Ameer Abdullah's touchdown runs. Abdullah lost a fumble, but ran hard in place of injured starter Rex Burkhead, as did backup Braylon Heard. 09/10/2012 - SEPT 10 LOU GROZA COLLEGIATE PLACE-KICKER AWARD STAR OF THE WEEK: Senior kicker Brett Maher booted a career long 54-yard field goal to tie the game at the end of the first half, but the Cornhuskers would go on to lose a disappointing 36-30 decision to UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Saturday. It was the fourth field goal of 50 yards or longer of his career, and Nebraska's longest ever field goal away from Memorial Stadium. Maher, who handles the punting duties as well, also converted from 43 and 40 yards and was successful on all three extra point tries.
