04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Saints' picks: Round 5/162 -- Corey White, CB, 6-0, 206, Samford...Was rated as the 27th strong safety by NFLDraftScout.com, but the Saints see a lot of potential because of his 4.4 speed and leaping ability. COULD SURPRISE: Cornerback Corey White: The Saints certainly don't mind taking players from small schools and White, who has 4.4 speed and great leaping ability, filled the bill in the fifth round. Was projected by most scouts as a strong safety, but the Saints will put him at corner -- his college position. - The Sports Xchange

03/15/2012 - The Samford football program held its annual Pro Day for NFL Scouts Thursday morning at Seibert Stadium. Representatives from the Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers put former Samford players Alex Davis, Chris Evans, David Strider and Corey White through workouts on Thursday. White had an impressive performance, running the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds. White also had a good showing in the vertical jump (41.5) and broad jump (10.6). White also performed for the scouts at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month. He said, despite having a good showing at the combine, he wanted to come out and see if he could improve at Samford's Pro Day. "I just like to compete," White said. "I always like to compete with myself and try to get a better time in everything I do. That's why I came out here and did it again." White said performing at the NFL Combine helped him at Samford's Pro Day. "It was a great experience for me, being one of the only players from Samford to ever get to the combine," White said. "So, I just tried to go out there and do my best, so hopefully it'll work out for the best." Evans ran a 4.60 40-yard dash. In the bench press he lifted 225 pounds 24 times, and he had a 32.6 vertical leap. Evans, who is Samford's all-time leading rusher, wrapped up his collegiate career in 2010, but missed last season's Pro Day with an injury "I'm just grateful to be able to be out here at 100 percent and compete for my chance to play a game I love," Evans said. "I just came out here and gave it my best today." Davis bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times, while Strider lifted the weight 27 times during the workout. - Samford football
