Latest News
11/11/2011 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: South Florida leads the Big East in rushing offense, in part because QB B.J. Daniels is dangerous when he takes off with the ball and in part because Daniels hasn't had a great year throwing the football. The receiver to watch is Sterling Griffin, who leads the team with 40 receptions for 493 yards and is the primary concern for a secondary vulnerable to the big play. PLAYERS TO WATCH: S Phillip Thomas has six interceptions this season, most in the Big East and tied for third in the country. South Florida has been turnover-prone this season, which could give the junior a chance to add to that total. - The Sports Xchange

09/21/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: Safety Phillip Thomas left the USC game with an injury, but came back and was on the field at the finish. Given the other injuries in the secondary, the coaching staff is hoping he'll be ready to go to help shut down the Toledo passing attack.

09/12/2011 - BIG EAST WEEK 2 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Phillip Thomas, Jr., Safety, Syracuse, was tabbed as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after he had four tackles (all solo stops), two interceptions and a pass breakup to help Syracuse hold off upset-minded Rhode Island in a 21-14 win, lifting the Orange to a 2-0 start. He had a 10-yard interception return in the first half, while his second pick came in the fourth quarter on Rhode Island's final possession to clinch the win. - BIG EAST football

09/01/2011 - Safety Phillip Thomas fractured his jaw in practice, but was back on the field at the end of August and expected to play in the season opener. - The Sports Xchange
