04/24/2013 - 2013 NFL DRAFT RANG'S GANG: ILB: A.J. Klein, Iowa State, 6-1, 250, 4.66...Proving bigger and faster than virtually any of the inside linebackers tested this year at the combine, Klein shattered the misconception that his eye-popping production reflected good instincts which masked less-than-ideal athleticism. Of course, scouts should have known this already based on the FBS record he set for linebackers with four touchdowns scored off of interceptions over his career. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

04/08/2013 - 2013 Iowa State Pro Day: Representatives from 16 NFL teams - including the linebackers coaches from the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles - gathered at Iowa State's pro day on March 26, where 15 players worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

A.J. Klein, ILB (6-foot-1 1/2, 246 pounds) - Klein had a 33-inch vertical jump, 4.35-second short shuttle and 7.09-second three-cone drill. He stood on his official 40-yard dash time of 4.66 seconds recorded at the NFL Scouting Combine. Klein was favoring his right knee during the pro day workout, but had a good performance anyway. Klein - who is from Kimberly, Wis. - is one of the few athletes to leave the state of Wisconsin and really work out well elsewhere. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

02/20/2013 - 2013 NFL Combine, Most to gain: While Te'o will draw most of the camera flashes, one inside linebacker who has proven to be a consistent playmaker in college with supposedly less than ideal athleticism is Iowa State's A.J. Klein. Voted the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Big 12 in 2011 and having posted similar statistics as a senior, the 6-1, 245-pound Klein is well known to scouts and his name in the record books with four career interceptions returned for touchdowns, tied for most among FBS linebackers. Should Klein run well, he could help serve notice to scouts that he possesses legitimate athleticism to go along with his instincts and high-revving motor. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

07/09/2012 - Top-five Iowa State prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 2. ILB A.J. Klein (6-2, 245)...Paired with Knott, middle linebacker Klein makes up one of the top linebacker tandems in the nation. After leading the team in tackles last season, he earned several pre-season honors this summer prior to his senior season in 2012. Klein was a three-star recruit out of Wisconsin, but didn't receive an offer from the Badgers and accepted a scholarship from the Cyclones. After limited playing time as a freshman in 2009, he became a starter in 2010 and registered 111 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss and three interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors. Klein had his best season in 2011 as a junior, leading the team with 116 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and another pick returned for a score (giving him a school-record three career interception returns for touchdowns). For his production last season, he earned All-Conference honors and was named the Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, along with Oklahoma's Frank Alexander. Klein is an intense competitor and while that emotional attitude has caused him to butt heads with the coaching staff in the past, he has matured into a team leader. He plays with a chip on his shoulder, showing top football awareness with a glass-eating diet, but lacks the elite athleticism for the next level. Just like Knott, Klein projects more as a later round draft pick, but he isn't the type of player one should bet against. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
