04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Bengals picks: Round 1/21 - Kevin Zeitler, OG, 6-3, 322, Wisconsin...Barring injury, he will be the starter at right guard when the season opens. - The Sports Xchange

04/30/2012 - It used to be that Bengals drafts would be exercises in frustration but the past three have been un-Bengallike in their results. With 10 picks, they addressed key needs on offense and defense, using five on each side. Besides finding their starting right guard, they have competition on the defensive line, cornerback and tight end. They also drafted two wide receivers who will compete to start opposite A.J. Green. The draft is not flashy but they did stock themselves with some depth and got younger. In many ways, it followed the way the Ravens and Steelers have attacked past drafts. BEST PICK: Guard Kevin Zeitler: The Bengals moved down six spots and also got a third-round pick from New England. They liked both David DeCastro and Zeitler but Zeitler might be a better fit because he is considered to be slightly better as a run blocker. He also gives them their starting right guard for the next five years. - The Sports Xchange

04/27/2012 - Zeitler is only the second guard in team history selected in the first round but he is one of the more consistent blockers in the nation. Zeitler has also been a favorite of offensive line coach Paul Alexander's for awhile. "You will like him. He's a tough football player," Alexander said. "He's the type of guy if you went fishing you want to spend time with. Sometimes you go out on a lake and after a half hour you want to throw them in the water." Zeitler's greatest strength though is as a run blocker, which is one area where the Bengals have struggled the past couple seasons. "We've had some of the top rushing statistics throughout the country and I believe it just shows what we're able to do there," Zeitler said. "We're doing the right things here and NFL teams seem to like it." Zeitler should be in the mix for the right guard spot which currently has Otis Hudson, Clint Boling and possibly Jacob Bell. Bobbie Williams was the starter there the past eight seasons but is not expected to be re-signed. "His greatest strength is he's productive. He has enough size and versatility," Alexander said. - The Sports Xchange

04/27/2012 - 2012 NFL DRAFT: PICK-BY-PICK ANALYSIS: 27. Cincinnati Bengals (draft-day trade with New England): OG Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin -- A strong interior blocker and fine fit in the Bengals' run-heavy offense. - Jeff Reynolds, The Sports Xchange

04/26/2012 - ROB RANG'S TOP 50 PLAYERS OF THE 2012 NFL DRAFT: 37. Kevin Zeitler, OG, Wisconsin: Stanford's David DeCastro gets what little attention an offensive guard is going to get in a draft as QB-heavy as this one, but Zeitler is a legitimate first round candidate in his own right. Durable, physical and technically-refined, he's an immediate NFL starter from a program well known for producing quality blockers. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

04/02/2012 - NFL DRAFT SCOUT TOP OFFENSIVE LINEMEN: Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin, 6-4, 314...A perfectionist, Zeitler expects more out of himself than anybody else could in class, the weight room and on the field. His anxious nitpicking is noticed and not always well-accepted by classmates, teachers and teammates. But it is opposing defenders who pay the price when the sum of his hard work pays off on the field. So, as expected, scouting reports show he does just about everything according to the book to his best ability -- and he has plenty of ability. Zeitler added a significant amount of lean mass in his college career and used it well. According NFL Draft Report statistics, he led college football with 142 knockdown blocks and had 33 blocks that resulted in touchdowns, obviously a major reason Wisconsin had a per-game average of 44.62 points and 467 total yards, including 237 on the ground. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange

03/08/2012 - After the combine, guard Kevin Zeitler's draft stock appears to be on the rise, and one substantial reason for that is his performance in interviews with various team representatives. Zeitler, who put up 32 bench press reps at the combine, felt he impressed scouts, and Bielema said he had heard the same. While in Indianapolis, Zeitler also had a chance to impress Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson. "I was walking back from a hotel across the street, I was getting stretched out by my trainer, and I saw a guy with really white hair outside the hotel," Zeitler said. "I was like ???That has to be Ted Thompson,' but I wasn't entirely sure so I just kept walking and [we] kind of like stared each other down. "And I walk by, he's like ???Zeitler, you're not going to stop and say hi to me?'" Thompson attended Wisconsin's pro day along with scouts from the New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints. Zeitler also said he and tackle Josh Oglesby also ran a few drills with a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. - Elliot Hughes, UW Badger Herald

The Outland Trophy goes to the best interior lineman in college football, presented annually since 1946 and is the third oldest award in major college football. The award is presented annually to the best interior lineman in college football. Zeitler enters his senior season as a two-year starter at right guard for the Badgers. He appeared in all 13 games last season, including starts in each of the season's final nine games, and earned consensus All-Big Ten honorable mention. He was also twice named UW's co-offensive player of the week. His contributions were evident in 2010, aiding a line that allowed the Badgers to pile up record-setting numbers on offense en route to the Big Ten championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl. UW's offense topped the 70-point plateau three times and led the Big Ten with a school-record 41.5 points per game, including an average of 45.2 points in conference play - the second-best mark in Big ten history. - Wisconsin football
