LATEST NEWS
03/28/2013 - 2013 San Diego State Pro Day: San Diego State and Hawaii held their pro days together in San Diego on March 19. Workouts were held outdoors on FieldTurf. All 32 NFL teams were present, including defensive back coaches from San Diego and tight end coaches from Cincinnati, Philadelphia and San Diego. Leon McFadden, CB (5-11, 192) - McFadden had a 34 1/2-inch vertical and did positional drills. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

12/14/2012 - 2012 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FIRST-TEAM (COACHES & MEDIA): DB Leon McFadden, Sr., San Diego State, has been selected First Team All-Mountain West Conference (Coaches & Media selection) for the 2012 college football season. McFadden became the fifth San Diego State player in school history to earn first-team all-conference accolades in three consecutive seasons and the first since Kirk Morrison from 2002-04. McFadden, who has played in every game since arriving on campus as a true freshman in 2009 and is tied for the most pass breakups in program history, has set career highs this year in tackles (59), solo stops (45), interceptions (3) and forced fumbles (1), while adding 10 PBUs and two interceptions returned for a touchdown. - San Diego State football

10/23/2012 - Week 8 Rewind: I've highlighted the play of Oregon State's Jordan Poyer and Washington's Desmond Trufant in recent weeks but they aren't the only senior cornerbacks turning scouts' heads on the west coast thus far this season. San Diego State's Leon McFadden has lived up to his billing as the Mountain West Conference's preseason Defensive Player of the Year so far by intercepting three passes, two of which he's returned for touchdowns. The 5-10, 190 pounder demonstrated the quick feet, fluid hips and closing speed scouts are looking for at the position in a late night showdown against Nevada. Like many cornerbacks, there were times, however, when McFadden disappointed with his lack of physicality. Specifically, McFadden failed to get an strong initial jam on his assigned receiver when in press coverage and too easily gave up against offensive linemen blocking on screens. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

10/23/2012 - Week 8 Rewind: McFadden, a two-time All-MWC honoree, possesses the athleticism and ball skills (eight career interceptions) to earn an invitation to a prominent senior all-star game and is expected to test well in post-season workouts. Taking his production, consistency and the relative dearth of high-ranking talent at the position this year, McFadden could surprise as a top 100 prospect this year -- just as former Aztec stars Ronnie Hillman (Denver Broncos) and Vincent Brown (San Diego Chargers) did in each of the past two NFL drafts. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

09/30/2012 - Derek Carr threw for 536 yards and five touchdowns to make Fresno State's first Mountain West Conference game a success in a 52-40 victory against San Diego State on Saturday night. Carr completed 42 of 56 passes for the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0). He is the fourth quarterback in school history to throw for over 500 yards in a game, the first since his brother, David, threw for 531 yards in the 2001 Silicon Valley Classic bowl game against Michigan State. Leon McFadden's 96-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the Aztecs (2-3, 0-1) a 40-36 lead with 9:09 remaining in the third quarter. But Carr hit Isaiah Burse with a 31-yard scoring toss to give Fresno State the lead back, 43-40. After a Bulldogs field goal, Carr found Rashad Evans for a 5-yard TD pass for the final margin. Fresno State had three 100-yard receivers: Evans had 10 catches for 100 yards and three TDs, Josh Harper nine for 120 yards and a score, and Davante Adams eight for 102 yards. Ryan Katz passed for 160 yards and two touchdowns and led San Diego State rushers with 89 yards on 13 carries, including a 67-yarder. - AP Sports

09/01/2012 - Five I'll Be Watching This Weekend: CB Leon McFadden, San Diego State: Though his Washington counterpart, Desmond Trufant, might have the most recognizable name of cornerbacks on the west coast, McFadden is one of the first names out of the mouths of NFL scouts when it comes to previewing the elite defensive backs on this side of the country. Few outside of the Mountain West Conference likely know McFadden's name but the playmaking cornerback was named the conference's preseason Defensive Player of the Year. He's a two-time defending MWC First-Team defender who led the conference a season ago with 17 passes defensed. The 5-10, 190 pound McFadden will face a stiff test Saturday night against a Washington passing attack that looked every bit as lethal as Baylor's a year ago in the Alamo Bowl. McFadden is an athletic and competitive press corner -- precisely the type that has given the Huskies' wide receivers trouble in the past. Washington sophomore Kasen Williams should be a particularly interesting draw for McFadden, who enters the 2012 season as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 5 senior cornerback prospect. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

07/25/2012 - 2012 MOUNTAIN WEST PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM (MEDIA): DB Leon McFadden, Sr., San Diego State...McFadden became the first San Diego State player to be named a preseason player of the year (offense, defense or special teams). McFadden, who is looking to become the fifth Aztec in program history to earn first-team all-conference honors in three consecutive years, is on the preseason watch list for the Nagurski Award (top defensive player) and the Thorpe Award (top defensive back). He's also the third player in the last 11 years (also Kirk Morrison and Lynell Hamilton) to be named to the preseason all-conference team for a second time. The Inglewood, Calif., native led the league in passes defended (17) last year, while recording 46 tackles (35 solo), two interceptions and a sack. - San Diego State football

In 2011, the Inglewood, Calif., native led the league in passes defended (17), while recording 46 tackles (35 solo), two interceptions and a sack. - SD State football

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is presented to the National Defensive Player of the Year by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Football Writers Association of America. McFadden has already earned all-Mountain West first-team defensive honors from Phil Steele, Athlon Sports, and Lindy's Sports as well as being tabbed to the defensive back trophy watch list by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA). The senior was also selected as the preseason MW Defensive Player of the Year by Lindy's.
