01/13/2013 - University of North Carolina wide receiver Erik Highsmith has accepted an invitation to play in the 88th East-West Shrine Game??. The Game will be held January 19, 2013 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., kicking off at 4 p.m. EST and televised live on NFL Network. Highsmith finished his career at Carolina 166 receptions, which ranks third all-time. He had at least 24 receptions in all four seasons. A native of Vanceboro, N.C., Highsmith had at least one catch in 51 career games. 11/15/2012 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: North Carolina is well on its way to a school record for total offense. The Tar Heels are averaging 488.7 yards a game rushing and passing. The record, set in 1983, is 441.8. Senior WR Erick Highsmith ranks fourth all-time in receptions for North Carolina with 158. - The Sports Xchange

09/06/2012 - As might be expected in a 62-0 rout, North Carolina compiled some big statistics against Elon, like 243 rushing yards and 281 passing, and only 170 allowed in total offense to the visitors. But probably the most remarkable was punt return yardage. The Tar Heels had an ACC-record 260 on nine returns, a 28.9 average with three players -- Giovani Bernard (2-100), Roy Smith (6-127) and Erik Highsmith (1-33) -- doing the work. - The Sports Xchange

07/18/2012 - 2012 BILETNIKOFF AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Erik Highsmith, North Carolina, has been selected to the Preseason Biletnikoff Award Watch List for the 2012 college football season, presented to America's top college football wide receiver by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. Highsmith, a 6-3 standout from Vanceboro, N.C., proved to be a capable second option behind Dwight Jones in 2011, finishing his junior season with 51 receptions for 726 yards and five touchdowns. He had a career-best eight catches for 77 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown, in the Independence Bowl. - North Carolina football

06/21/2012 - Top-five North Carolina prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 5. WR Erik Highsmith (6-3, 190)...With his size, length and ability to run, look for Highsmith to receive several comparisons to former North Carolina receiver Dwight Jones, who went undrafted this past April. But the difference for Highsmith is his love for the game and work ethic to get better. He has started since his freshman season and currently boasts 113 catches and 30 starts in his Chapel Hill career. Highsmith burst onto the scene as a true freshman with 37 catches, but took a step back in 2010 with only 25 grabs. He set a new career-best last season when he finished second on the team with 51 receptions for 726 yards (14.2) and five touchdowns. Highsmith returns as the Tar Heels' No.1 receiving threat in 2012 and will look to improve his draft stock, which is currently in the middle rounds. He is a tall, long target and not easy to bring down after the catch, showing good toughness and balance to run through tackles and create. Highsmith is a natural hands-catcher with good focus and a much improved route runner. He needs to do a better job taking care of the football and creating separation in tight coverage, but should be one of the ACC's top receivers this season. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
