10/16/2012 - OCT 15 MISSOURI VALLEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Matt Brown, Illinois State 6-4, 235, Sr., Marion (Ill.) High...Brown bounced back from the worst game of his career to lead the Redbirds to a come-from-behind victory over No. 8 Youngstown State Saturday at Hancock Stadium. The Marion, Ill., native threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns and scored the game-winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for ISU. With his 225 yards passing, Brown surpassed the 9,000 yards passing plateau and now has 9,028 in his career. 10/13/2012 - Matt Brown threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for one more as Illinois State made a comeback to beat Youngstown State 35-28 on Saturday afternoon. Brown was 20 of 31 passing for 225 yards, including a 16-yard pass to Donovan Harden. Brown scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth for the Redbirds. He also threw touchdown passes to Lechein Neblett and Tyrone Walker. Brown was 20 of 31 for 225 passing yards. Jamaine Cook put the Penguins on the scoreboard first with a 7-yard run. He had two more touchdowns, including a 14-yard run, keeping Youngstown out in front of Illinois State (6-1, 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference). Cook had 30 carries for 177 rushing yards. Youngstown State had a 28-7 lead in the second quarter. 10/02/2012 - OCT 1 MISSOURI VALLEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Matt Brown, Illinois State 6-4, 225, Sr., Marion (Ill.) High...Brown set two new school records and led the Redbirds to a tough 34-31 victory at South Dakota. The Marion, Ill., native became Illinois State's all-time leader in career passing yards leader (8,857) and attempts (1,186) and tied the school record with his 62nd career touchdown pass. Brown finished the game with 336 yards, including a season-long 79-yard strike to Donovan Harden that broke a 24-24 tie in the fourth quarter and put ISU up for good. 09/29/2012 - Darrelynn Dunn ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns and Illinois State won its fifth straight game, defeating South Dakota 34-31 on Saturday. Matt Brown threw for 336 yards and a TD, and ran for another score. The Redbirds (5-0, 2-0 Missouri Valley) are off to their best start since the 1967 team began 6-0. Donovan Harden and Tyrone Walker each surpassed 100 yards receiving for ISU, with Harden hauling in a 79-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to break a 24-24 tie. Nick Aussieker kicked a 42-yard field goal with 56 seconds left to give Illinois State a 10-point lead. Marcus Sims ran for 120 yards, including a 53-yard score, and caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Josh Vander Maten for the Coyotes (1-3), playing their first game in the Missouri Valley. 09/15/2012 - Matt Brown accounted for seven touchdowns, and his fifth scoring pass of the game, a 25-yarder to Tyrone Walker in the second overtime period, capped a career-high 473-yard performance and gave Illinois State a wild 54-51 victory Saturday over Eastern Illinois. Eastern Illinois had taken the lead on a 40-yard field goal by Cameron Berra, whose 20-yarder at the end of regulation sent the game to overtime. Brown, who added two rushing touchdowns, also hit Donovan Harden for two scores and Lechein Neblett and Cameron Hunt for one apiece. The five touchdowns, on 42-of-57 passing, tied Brown's career high. Walker led all receivers with 11 catches for 142 yards. The teams combined for 1,042 yards of total offense. The Redbirds (3-0) won despite being penalized 22 times for 178 yards. 09/01/2012 - Darrelynn Dunn had 127 yards rushing and three touchdowns, Matt Brown threw for three more scores and Illinois State dominated Dayton 56-14 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Cameron Hunt added 120 yards rushing, including an 82-yard score in the fourth quarter, for the Redbirds in the first meeting between the schools. Dunn, a senior, surpassed his touchdown total from 2011, when he ran for 247 yards and three scores after transferring from Iowa Central Community College. Brown completed 22 of his 34 passes for 192 yards, finding Lechein Neblett for two scores and Phil Dudley for one. Will Bardo was 7 of 21 for 96 yards passing and the Flyers' only offensive score, a 17-yarder to Branden Johnson. 08/03/2012 - 2012 PRESEASON MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES/SIDS): QB Matt Brown (Illinois State), has been selected Preseason All-Missouri Valley Football Honorable Mention for the 2012 college football season as selected by the MVC head coaches, sports information directors & select media. Brown is one of just two Redbird quarterbacks in program history to throw for over 2,000 yards in three-consecutive seasons and has thrown for 7,221 yards and 51 touchdown passes in his career, which ranks third in the Illinois State history books in both categories. Last season, Brown was an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference Second-Team selection, after he threw for 2,187 yards and 18 touchdowns, with a school single-season completion percentage record of 65 percent (208-for-320). In 2010, Brown set career-highs with 2,665 yards and 22 touchdown passes following the 2009 season, when he was named the MVFC Freshman of the Year after taking over as the team's starting quarterback after the season opener and setting new Illinois State freshman records for completions (226), attempts (352) and passing yards (2,369). - Illinois State football

The Redbirds (7-3, 5-2 Missouri Valley) rolled up 273 rushing yards, averaging just under 6 yards for 46 carries. Cliffton Gordon gained 78 yards and scored on a 2-yard run, and Darrelynn Dunn ran for a 20-yard score for Illinois State, which has won five in a row. Brown's touchdown pass was a 30-yarder to Donovan Harden. Nikko Watson scored Western Illinois' only touchdown on a 1-yard run. He led the Leathernecks (2-7, 1-5) with 60 rushing yards. - AP Sports

10/29/2011 - Matt Brown threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Illinois State to a 38-30 victory over Southern Illinois. The Redbirds (6-3, 4-2 Missouri Valley) jumped ahead less than 3 minutes into the game when Colton Underwood picked up a Saluki fumble and ran 53 yards for a touchdown. Brown connected with James O'Shaughnessy for an 18-yard score midway through the first quarter to make it 14-0. Illinois State led the rest of the way. Brown's 19-yard pass to Tyrone Walker gave the Redbirds a 24-7 lead in the second quarter. Southern Illinois (2-6, 1-5) got within 31-24 in the fourth quarter, but Cliffton Gordon's 3-yard TD run with 4:31 to play put it away for Illinois State. 10/22/2011 - Matt Brown threw for 172 yards and a touchdown to help Illinois State beat Indiana State 17-14 on Saturday. Brown's 10-yard TD pass to James O'Shaughnessy gave the Redbirds a 17-6 lead early in the third quarter. Ashton Leggett scored on a 1-yard run in the first half for Illinois State (5-3, 3-2 Missouri Valley). Indiana State (5-3, 3-2) drew within 17-14 on Ben Obaseki's 1-yard run and Ronnie Fouch's two-point conversion pass to Leonard Riston with 6:59 to play. The Sycamores recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, but couldn't cash in when Tann Frischle missed a 41-yard field goal attempt. Fouch found Alex Jones for a 77-yard touchdown for the Sycamores' first score. Fouch was 10 for 25 for 175 yards and was sacked five times. - AP Sports
