03/16/2013 - 2013 Ohio State Pro Day: Representatives from 27 NFL teams were present at Ohio State's pro day, which was held indoors on field turf. A total of 12 players from the university and one player from Glenville State worked out in front of NFL coaches and scouts. Zack Boren, FB (5-foot-11 7/8, 250 pounds) - Posted a best time of 4.98 seconds in the 40-yard dash. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

11/27/2012 - Week 13 Rewind: Boren's Savvy, Inspirational Play Leads Buckeyes to Win...The 109th playing of The Game was certainly not the most aesthetically pleasing version of the great Ohio State-Michigan rivalry but that doesn't mean talent evaluators won't be adjusting their draft boards after the undefeated Buckeyes' 12th win. The player who might see the biggest jump could be Ohio State inside linebacker Zach Boren, who demonstrated surprising instincts, agility and overall athleticism despite Saturday's game being just his sixth at the position.

As a 30-game starter for the Buckeyes at fullback, scouts knew Boren had the physicality and toughness necessary to make the adjustment to linebacker. He wasted little time in demonstrating these traits, nevertheless, with a jarring sack of Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner. Boren led the Buckeyes with nine tackles in the game. He also notched his first career fumble recovery. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

11/27/2012 - Week 13 Rewind: Proving he's hardly just a human sledgehammer, however, Boren demonstrated surprising awareness and lateral agility in weaving his way through traffic to find Michigan ball-carriers between the tackles. Even better, Boren demonstrated enough speed to help contain the Wolverines' fabulously athletic and versatile combination of Gardner and Denard Robinson when they ran wide. Boren even proved himself capable of helping out in coverage, dropping back 20-30 yards at times, to cover Michigan's backs and tight ends. Needless to say, Notre Dame's Manti Te'o's perch atop NFLDraftScout.com's inside linebacker rankings is safe. And considering Boren's experience at fullback, it is easy to understand why some still believe that could be his future position in the NFL.

Recognizing the impact Boren has made in turning around a talented (but poor tackling) Buckeyes' defense, however, his greater upside lies on the defensive side of the ball. Boren needed to play well in this contest for Ohio State to come out victorious, especially with the news that their senior leader, defensive end John Simon, wouldn't be able to play due to a knee injury. In taking over as the team's defensive leader and emotional catalyst, Boren helped lead the Buckeyes to an undefeated season. In doing so, the 6-0, 245 pounder could make a play for a spot within the first four rounds of the 2013 draft. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

11/24/2012 - Five Prospects to Watch in Week 13: Zach Boren, ILB, Ohio State: College football just doesn't get much better than The Game. Boren and his undefeated Buckeyes host Michigan in the 109th battle between the two longtime powerhouses and Boren might be as emblematic of the importance and family ties as anyone. The son of two Michigan athletes, he grew up cheering for the Maize and Blue but elected to sign with the Buckeyes after his older brother, Justin transferred there after just one year with the Wolverines. While this transition certainly gives this year's showdown a human interest story, the more interesting adjustment shown by Boren from a scouting perspective has been Boren's play at middle linebacker since injuries forced head coach Urban Meyer and his staff to move their fullback (30 game starter) to the defensive side of the ball.

Boren has played well in his first five games at the position, demonstrating surprising instincts and the physicality one might expect given the aggressive nature of his former position. Against the Wolverines' ultra-athletic duo of Denard Robinson and Devin Gardner, however, Boren's speed and open-field tackling will be given a very tough test. This game begins at noon eastern Saturday and will be televised by ABC. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

09/11/2012 - FB Zach Boren, who entered his senior season with one career carry for two yards, had seven carries in the win over Central Florida for 16 yards. QUOTE TO NOTE: "This week is a big week for us. We've played well in the last two games, but we've also made some serious mistakes, so we need to see improvement in practice leading up to next Saturday." -- Ohio State senior FB Zach Boren on the urgency surrounding preparations for the California game. - The Sports Xchange

09/05/2012 - FB Zach Boren, a senior who had just one carry in his career entering the 2012 season, carried the ball twice for 10 yards against Miami, and scored the first rushing touchdown of his career. - The Sports Xchange

05/24/2012 - Zach Boren is the starting fullback, but Meyer also said he will carry the ball in the fall. In the previous offense, Boren was entirely a blocking back who caught a few passes, but with less of a true fullback in this offense, Meyer wants to find ways to keep Boren involved. He said Boren has dropped 12 pounds and is a good runner between the tackles. - Doug Lesmerises, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

04/16/2012 - The list of big-time players Urban Meyer had while winning two national championships at Florida goes on and on: Percy Harvin, Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, Joe Haden and Brandon Spikes, among others. So far, during his first few weeks working with his new team at Ohio State, he has yet to find anyone of that caliber. But he remains hopeful. "You've got to do it over and over again but there are times ..." he said earlier this week after what he called the best practice he's seen the offense have in the short time he's been with the team. "It's not a clown show out there like at a couple of points it was." It's a three-ring affair in many ways. With a new offensive system, the Buckeyes are learning new plays, new terminology, new philosophies - really one philosophy, Meyer's. "It's just really, really, really up-tempo," offensive lineman Jack Mewhort said of the change. "We're a no-huddle offense now." That's dramatically different from years past when Ohio State relied more on muscle and execution to blow people off the ball, freeing the skill players to pile up big yardage. "Last year we were much more of an I-formation team, kind of a pro-style thing with the quarterback under center a lot," fullback Zach Boren said. "This year it's all about spreading the field and making vertical plays, getting the ball up and down the field with speed. We're not going to be lining up with a fullback and a tight end in the box and just running power. We're still going to run power this year, we're still going to be a tough, physical power running team, but we're just going to do it out of different formations and let guys play in space and make plays." - AP Sports
