11/21/2013 - WEEK 12 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rice senior K Chris Boswell scored 10 points to move into third place on the C-USA career kick scoring list, including his 63rd career field goal to move into fifth on the conference career list, as the Owls defeated Louisiana Tech, 52-14. Boswell moved past Tulane's Seth Marler into fourth with 341 points, which is 19 points shy of tying former All-American wide receiver Jarett Dillard's Rice career scoring record of 360 points (all via touchdowns) with his output vs. the Bulldogs.
His 63rd career three-pointer was his 12th consecutive make from under 50 yards this year and moved him past Jonathan Ruffin of Cincinnati into fourth on the career field goal chart. Boswell is eight field goals shy of the C-USA career record of 70, held by Stephen Gostowkski of Memphis from 2002-05. 10/21/2013 - WEEK 8 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rice senior K Chris Boswell scored nine points and extended his lead as the NCAA's active career leader in field goals from 50 yards or longer in the 45-19 win over New Mexico State. Boswell's 50-yarder early in the 4th quarter was the 13th from 50 or longer, eight more than his closest rival. It was also his 61st career field goal, which ranks him sixth in C-USA history, one behind Jonathan Ruffin of Cincinnati (1998-02), and his 10th of the season. Boswell became the first Rice kicker to kick at least 10 field goals in four seasons. Additionally, all eight of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks. 09/16/2013 - WEEK 3 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rice senior K Chris Boswell contributed 11 of Rice's 23 points in the win over Kansas with three field goals and two PATs. His 56-yard field goal with 8:05 left in the game put Rice back in front 16-14 and was his 12th career kick of 50 yards or more, triple the number of the next active kicker in the FBS division (Cairo Santos of Tulane has four). It was Boswell's third career kick of 56 yards or better and raised his career mark from 50 or longer to 12/17. Boswell now has 55 career field goals to move into eighth place on the C-USA career list. The Lou Groza Award named Boswell as one of its three national "Stars of the Week" Monday. 09/15/2013 - Chris Boswell kicked a 56-yard, go-ahead field goal with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and Charles Ross added an 8-yard touchdown run as Rice beat Kansas 23-14 Saturday night. The win evened up Rice's record at 1-1, and the loss did the same for Kansas (1-1).
Taylor McHargue completed 14 of 31 pass attempts for 168 yards and Ross carried the ball a career-high 27 times for 157 yards, to lead the Owls offense. But it was Rice's Driphus Jackson who came off the bench to drive the Owls down the field in the fourth quarter, as they scored their only offensive touchdown of the contest. James Sims led the Jayhawks with 109 yards rushing on 19 carries. Rice took a 2-1 lead in the all-time series between the two schools. - AP Sports
07/17/2013 - 2013 LOU GROZA AWARD WATCH LIST: Chris Boswell, Rice...The Keller, Texas native was a semifinalist for the award each of the past two seasons and is one of 30 players on the list for the 2013 edition. Last season, Boswell was one of the top kickers in the country as he led the nation in long distance field goals while re-writing the Rice kicking record book. He set school season records for field goals (23) and kick scoring (114) in addition to career records for field goals (51) and field goal attempts (67) and kick scoring (270).
Boswell also led C-USA in kick scoring and field goals and finished fourth overall in scoring. He tied for sixth nationally with 23 field goals and ranked 13th among active kickers with 51 field goals, second among underclassmen. He led the nation with six field goals from 50 yards or more and was 6-of-8 from that distance. His 11 career field goals from 50 yards or longer are nearly triple the total of the next highest returning kicker for 2013 (Aaron Jones of Baylor has four). - Rice football
