04/25/2013 - ROB RANG'S FINAL 2013 NFL DRAFT BIG BOARD: 29. *Eric Reid, FS, LSU: Reid entered his junior season as my top-rated safety but his number of big plays dropped with the Tigers losing three defensive backs to the NFL (cornerbacks Morris Claiborne and Ron Brooks, and strong safety Brandon Taylor) and Tyrann Mathieu to suspension. He's terrific in run support, has the speed and length to be an eraser in deep coverage and has proven his ball skills. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

03/29/2013 - 2013 LSU Pro Day: Eric Reid, FS (6-1 5/8, 210) - Reid ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 and 4.52 seconds. He had an excellent workout and should be drafted near the top of the second round. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

01/04/2013 - LSU safety Eric Reid will forgo his final season of eligibility and will make himself available for the 2013 NFL Draft, the junior announced on Friday. Reid, a first-team All-America selection in 2012, joins linebacker Kevin Minter as LSU's early NFL entries thus far. In three years with the Tigers, Reid played on teams that won 10 or more games all three years, including last year's 13-1 squad that captured the Southeastern Conference title and reached the BCS National Championship Game. Reid's three-year record at LSU was 34-6.

"I've been very fortunate and blessed to have been able to play football at LSU," Reid said. "It was always my dream to go to LSU and play football. "I want to thank Coach (Les) Miles and all of the people that played a role to get me to this point in my life. This was a very difficult decision because I always wanted to be a Tiger and I love LSU. But, after careful consideration and talking with my family, I feel like this is the right time to make this decision. I will always be a LSU Tiger."

In his final season with the Tigers in 2012, Reid started all 13 games and finished third on the team in tackles with 91. He had seven pass breakups, two pass interceptions, one tackle for loss and recovered a fumble for an LSU defense that ranked among the best in the nation. - LSU football

01/04/2013 - LSU announced on Friday that junior safety Eric Reid will forego his senior season for the 2013 NFL Draft and junior cornerback Tharold Simon will join him, according to several reports. LSU linebacker Kevin Minter announced his decision to go pro on Thursday and several other LSU juniors, like defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery, have yet to announce their decision. Reid has a chance to be the first safety drafted in April, currently ranking as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 1 free safety prospect and mid-to-late first round pick. "I've been very fortunate and blessed to have been able to play football at LSU," Reid said in a release. "It was always my dream to go to LSU and play football."

A two-year starter in the LSU secondary, Reid finishes his collegiate career with 189 total tackles and six interceptions. He showed his versatility for the Tigers and was used in-the-box as an extra linebacker and in the deep half of the field in coverage. Reid is a violent hitter and has the range to make plays all over the field, but he needs to show better discipline at the NFL level. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

12/16/2012 - 2012 NCAA FBS CONSENSUS ALL-AMERICAN: DB - Eric Reid, LSU, 6-2, 212, junior...In 2012, Reid helped lead the Tigers to a 10-2 overall mark and a No. 8 national ranking heading into the Dec. 31 Chick-fil-A Bowl against 14th-ranked Clemson. Reid, who was also a first team All-SEC selection, ranked third on the team with 81 tackles to go along with a pair of interceptions and six pass breakups. 10/23/2012 - OCT 22 NFL DRAFT SCOUT FALLER: FS ERIC REID, LSU...Arguably the top safety prospect in the nation, LSU free safety Eric Reid has appeared in the first round of just about every mock draft my colleague Rob Rang and I have done so far for the 2013 NFL Draft. And while his talent and tools scream top-32 pick, he has shown some maddening inconsistency this season. Reid is a fantastic downhill athlete with quick read-and-react ability to attack the play with steam spurting from his ears. But his biggest strength is also his greatest weakness, playing with nonstop aggressiveness and intensity, but he doesn't always control that hostility in a smart way on the football field. On Saturday against Texas A&M, Reid, like most weeks, was basically used as an extra linebacker, lining up in the box. He attacked the Aggies quickly, but over-aggressively as well, getting sucked in and biting on fakes and misdirection. Reid also recorded a costly personal foul penalty for a late hit out of bounds, a dumb mistake and example of his inability to control his intensity at times. He throws his body around and might be the most violent striker in the SEC, but if Reid doesn't learn how to play smarter and harness his fierce playing style then he'll have a tough time making a living in the NFL. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

10/14/2012 - LSU rode a time-consuming drive, a huge turnover and freshman Jeremy Hill's back-breaking 50-yard touchdown run to a big fourth quarter, and the ninth-ranked Tigers toppled third-ranked South Carolina 23-21 Saturday night in front of a full and rowdy house at Tiger Stadium. Down 14-10 after the teams swapped third-quarter touchdowns, the Tigers got the ball at their own 23-yard line late in the third quarter and started grinding away at the Gamecocks' normally sticky defense. Hill, who rushed for a career-best 124 yards and two TDs, ignited the drive with a 19-yard burst, and junior Spencer Ware converted three third downs with bruising runs as LSU (6-1, 2-1 SEC) gobbled up 7:57 on 16 plays. The drive finished with a 20-yard field goal by Drew Alleman that cut the Tigers' deficit to 14-13. The South Carolina offense was rusty by the time it got on the field, and quarterback Connor Shaw showed as much when his third-down pass sailed high, and Eric Reid picked it off. Reid returned the interception 29 yards to the Gamecocks' 22 and after Ware pounded out another first down with an 11-yard run, LSU was content to run three safe running plays and set Alleman up for a 22-yard go-ahead kick with 6:37 to go. - The Sports Xchange

10/13/2012 - Five Prospects I'll Be Watching Saturday: Eric Reid, FS, LSU*: Having their chances at a BCS title shot diminished last week with an upset loss to Georgia, it will be fascinating to see how the Tigers respond with a second consecutive fearsome opponent, as the No. 3 South Carolina Gamecocks come to town. Reid is among a handful of LSU defenders who entered the season with great fanfare but haven't yet posted the gaudy statistics expected of them. Nevertheless, the speed and physicality with which he plays at 6-2, 212 pounds has NFL scouts excited about his potential. I'm particularly interested to see how Reid and LSU's undersized defensive line handles the tough running by Marcus Lattimore and the obvious play-action deep passing that the Gamecocks build off of their All-American candidate. Reid has been a bit inconsistent this year in coverage. If he is in this contest, it will be obvious as South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw, who is completing an eye-popping 75.7% of his passes, isn't afraid to challenge defenses over the top. This game is scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm eastern and will be televised by ESPN. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

10/08/2012 - Week 6 Rewind: Following a Saturday in which No. 3 Florida State, No. 4 LSU and No. 5 Georgia each suffered upset losses to conference rivals, it is perhaps more appropriate than ever to remind fans of just how difficult is for teams -- regardless of their future NFL talent -- to finish a season undefeated. In the high-profile contest of the weekend it was the stellar play of two safeties that left the greatest impression on talent evaluators. LSU junior free safety Eric Reid entered the matchup against No. 10 Florida as the most celebrated defensive back on the field. The preseason All-American boasts a combination of size (6-2, 212), speed and ball skills unmatched in college football. He's hardly just an impressive athlete -- his reliable open-field tackling and history of making big plays in critical games have helped make him NFLDraftScout.com's No. 14 overall prospect. Against Florida, Reid wasn't able to make the momentum-changing plays that helped the Tigers to big wins over Alabama (2011), Texas A&M (2010-11 Cotton Bowl) and Arkansas (2010). While he showed terrific closing speed on several of his six tackles, Reid -- like most of LSU's talented defenders -- was largely held in check by Florida's commitment to the run. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

09/08/2012 - Five Prospects I'll Be Watching Saturday: FS Eric Reid, LSU- The Sports Xchange: Former LSU Tigers' Patrick Peterson and Morris Claiborne have won each of the past two Thorpe Award trophies as the nation's top defensive back. This year, Reid looks to keep up the Tigers' monopoly on this award and he won't get a stiffer test than the one he'll face Saturday against Washington and their underrated combination of junior quarterback Keith Price and a pair of true sophomore pass-catchers, wide receiver Kasen Williams and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Reid will be tested by Williams' ability to sneak downfield but it will be the one on one matchup with Seferian-Jenkins, the top tight end in college football, that will have NFL scouts on the edge of their seats. Reid certainly possesses the instincts and athleticism scouts are looking for in a safety capable of making plays in coverage in today's pass-happy NFL but matching up against the 6-6, 267 pound monster will give Reid, himself a well-built 6-2, 220 pounds, a significant challenge. With LSU's tandem of Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery likely to give Price little time to attack deep, he could be forced to rely on his tight end as a security blanket throughout much of this game. Reid has the closing speed and ball skills to make Price pay should he be too predictable in his reads. Reid is one of the elite prospects in the country, ranking No. 7 overall on my Big Board. This game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm eastern and will be televised by ESPN. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

09/08/2012 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: FS Eric Reid -- The leader of the Tigers' otherwise inexperienced secondary was responsible for two breakdowns that allowed North Texas' touchdowns in the opener.
