05/08/2014 - 2014 DRAFT SCOUT FINAL TOP 100: 74/7. Kareem Martin, DE, North Carolina, 6-6, 272, 4.68, 2-3...When a player has all the physical ability necessary, but plays up to apparent potential only in his senior year, scouts raise a red flag. Martin had a classic red flag 2013 senior season with 20 tackles for a loss, including 11 sacks, after registering only four in each of two previous seasons. He sustained interest with excellent workouts and game at Senior Bowl. Still, his value is as limited as his range, which is such that he may only be an asset as a base left end in a 4-3 alignment, where he can be disruptive. Frankly: An NFL team must have specific need to make this run-stopping end a valuable second-round pick in a pass-happy league. - Frank Cooney, NFLDraftScout.com

05/06/2014 - Five players who should be on the Buffalo Bills' draft radar...DE Kareem Martin, North Carolina: The Bills switch back to the 4-3 under new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz could lead to improved numbers for defensive end Mario Williams and pass-rushing defensive tackle Kyle Williams. Right defensive end Jerry Hughes, on the other hand, previously struggled in this role and therefore it is far from certain that the 6-2, 254-pounder will be able to build upon his breakout campaign (46 tackles, 10 sacks) that he enjoyed a season ago at outside linebacker. Schwartz employs a highly aggressive attack which could draw out the talent in the enigmatic Martin, whose Combine numbers compare favorably to presumptive No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and showed steady improvement over his final three starting seasons at Chapel Hill. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

08/11/2013 - PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2013: DE Kareem Martin will give the Tar Heels an excellent pass rusher to lead the defense in 2013. He had 15.5 tackles for loss, second on the team to LB Kevin Reddick's 18.5 total. - The Sports Xchange

08/11/2013 - TOP NORTH CAROLINA PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 2. Kareem Martin (6-5, 260, 4.73)...Entering his third season as the starter, Martin has shown NFL flashes since his freshman season at North Carolina and if he gets closer to his full potential as a senior in 2013, then the ACC might produce yet another impact pass rusher for the next level. He is an intriguing athlete with the frame and length ideally suited for the position and has reportedly worked hard to try to maximize his growth potential.

Martin has good natural burst to get off the ball, but he also has the range and foot speed to cover a lot of ground. He is still developing his instincts, but is already a stout run defender, showing the ability to anchor, read, react and attack to be a force vs. the run. Martin admittedly only knew a fraction of the playbook last season as Fedora and his coaches changed schemes, but he is up to full speed now so improvements are expected from the senior with more than a year under his belt with the new coaches. He has the tools to be the top senior defensive end in the country. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
