08/13/2013 - TOP IOWA PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 3. ILB James Morris (6-1, 240, 4.62)...With 29 starts under his belt at Iowa, Morris is one of the more experienced players on the team and is a captain on defense. He was all over the field in 2012, racking up 113 tackles including nine for a loss, 1.5 sacks, four passess deflected, an interception and a forced fumble over 11 starts.

An instinctive, smart and consistent defender, Morris diagnoses plays early, takes good angles to the football and is relentless in pursuit. He's solid fundamentally, exhibiting good gap discipline and solid wrap-up tackling, and does a good job of reading and anticipating opposing quarterbacks when asked to drop into zone.

Despite possessing strong instincts and awareness, Morris lacks the athleticism and range to cover the whole field sideline-to-sideline, and struggles to fend off blockers once engaged. He lacks fluidity in reverse and when sliding laterally, and doesn't explode downhill with his first step. Morris should get looks from NFL scouts based on his football IQ, toughness and consistency, but will struggle to earn a starting role at the next level unless he's able to exhibit better overall range from the middle. Size may also be a bit of a concern, as he plays lighter than what you'd like to see out of an inside 'backer at the next level. - Derek Stephens, NFLDraftScout.com
