11/15/2011 - Mississippi coach Houston Nutt has suspended starting quarterback Randall Mackey and leading rusher Jeff Scott for Saturday's game against No. 1 LSU for violating team rules. Nutt did not say what the violations were, but said the suspensions could also include the season finale against Mississippi State. Ole Miss announced Nutt would not return as coach next season on Nov. 7 after the Rebels lost their 12th straight SEC game. He is coaching the remainder of the season. "I hate it," Nutt said Tuesday. They've "got to learn how to handle change and it's tough for a lot of them, especially when a season doesn't go just right it's easy to let go. These last few weeks you try to teach them the best you can that life can be hard and lessons are tough, but there's no easy way out. There are no shortcuts, you know? "You finish and do right. That's the bottom line." Mackey has started the past six games and thrown for 1,112 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season. Backup Zack Stoudt, who would be the likely starter against the Tigers, has thrown for 542 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions. - AP Sports

09/21/2011 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: Three games into David Lee's tenure in Oxford, the results aren't positive. Ole Miss' offense is ranked last in the Southeastern Conference in terms of yards gained and only managed a touchdown in garbage time last week against Vanderbilt. The Rebels have been hampered by some injuries at tailback and an underperforming offensive line, but many fans are puzzled by the quarterback play, and the decisions made to reach this point. Zack Stoudt will apparently start this week after throwing five picks against Vandy, though Randall Mackey will play some. The first game starter, Barry Brunetti, hasn't played since the first half of the BYU game, when he went 2-for-3. - The Sports Xchange

08/30/2011 - BREAKOUT STAR: QB Randall Mackey - The junior college transfer redshirted last year while he learned the offense and worked through a speech problem that kept him from communicating effectively at the line. Those issues seemingly behind him now, there's no denying Mackey's speed, elusiveness and, perhaps most of all, his arm strength. He's the kind of dynamic quarterback who could transform an offense. - The Sports Xchange

08/23/2011 - Mississippi quarterback Randall Mackey has been arrested for disorderly conduct. Records at the Lafayette County Detention Center show Mackey was arrested by the Oxford Police Department at 12:26 a.m. Tuesday morning and charged with disorderly failure to comply. He was released on a cash bond at about 9 a.m. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound junior is fighting for the starting job along with sophomore Barry Brunetti and junior Zack Stoudt. Mackey redshirted last season with the Rebels after being named an All-American at East Mississippi Community College in 2009, throwing for 3,122 yards and 32 touchdowns during his sophomore season. Coach Houston Nutt did not immediately return a message seeking comment. An Ole Miss spokesman says Nutt will address the issue after Tuesday's practice. - AP Sports
