09/06/2013 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: S Ty Zimmerman is a senior who must exert leadership as the most experienced player on the Kansas State defense. As savvy as he is as a player, Zimmerman must be equally good getting the Wildcats to overcome an embarrassing loss to an FCS opponent. The Wildcats looked gassed at the end of the North Dakota State game, a bad sign if the defense is indeed in poor condition. - The Sports Xchange
08/30/2013 - MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER: SS Ty Zimmerman - An All-America pick last season, Zimmerman is yet another walk-on who flourished in the Kansas State system. With that out of the way, Zimmerman must now supply necessary leadership for a defense that lost nine starters. His knowledge will enable him to make calls and he must respond like a coach on the field to get newcomers into proper spots. Zimmerman is not only good as a center fielder who snagged five interceptions last season, but he can also offer support in the run game. If he has to make too many tackles, however, it could spell trouble. - The Sports Xchange
08/12/2013 - TOP KANSAS STATE PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 3. DB Ty Zimmerman (6-1, 204, 4.64)...A high school quarterback and son of a football coach, Zimmerman wasn't highly recruited, but when Kansas State coach Bill Snyder offered him a chance to gray shirt and change positions, he jumped at the opportunity. He moved to the secondary, where he caught on quickly at safety, undoubtedly helped by his experience on offense at quarterback. Zimmerman started 25 games over his first two seasons in Manhattan, earning All-Conference honors both years and combining for five interceptions. He had his best season as a junior in 2012 as a First Team All-Big 12 performer, recording 50 tackles, seven passes defended and tied for the team-lead with five interceptions.
Zimmerman is an energetic, motivated individual who plays the game with obvious passion and doesn't turn the switch off when he's on the field. He is a tall, lean athlete who covers a lot of ground, taking aggressive, downhill angles against the run. But he still has room to improve his consistency in pass coverage, too often late to react or allowing his eyes to be stuck in the backfield while losing his assignment. Zimmerman attacks the ball in the air with a forceful attitude, but he also needs to stay hands off in traffic to avoid pass interference calls. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
