03/28/2013 - 2013 Tennessee Pro Day: All 32 NFL teams sent representatives to Wednesday's pro day at the University of Tennessee, where wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and quarterback Tyler Bray were the big attractions. Mychal Rivera, a tight end who is 6-3?? and 238, did 31 in the vertical, benched 21 times, and caught the ball well. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

01/24/2013 - 2013 Senior Bowl: Tennessee's Rivera leads tight end group...Let's be honest: The next Antonio Gates or Rob Gronkowski isn't at the Senior Bowl this year. At this point, onlookers would be happy to have the next Dennis Pitta or Kyle Rudolph. Those kinds of tight ends might be in the mix. Through three practices, there doesn't appear to be a tight end worth a first- or second-round pick. That's not to say there isn't a good player or two in town, but it does suggest that when Cincinnati's Travis Kelce opted not to come to Mobile, the excitement over players at the position went out the window.

1. Mychal Rivera, Tennessee. A strong Wednesday practice pushed him past Vance McDonald as the best tight end candidate, but it took a little time. Like McDonald, he's a downfield receiving threat pretty much in the mold of Aaron Hernandez, albeit without the girth. Wednesday saw Rivera get the best of Georgia safety Shawn Williams on a deep post pattern from Tyler Wilson before connecting again with Wilson on a leaping grab down the seam with a defender on his rear. - Dave Richard, CBSSports.com

01/21/2013 - 2013 Senior Bowl, Monday Practice: Neither Williams nor his SEC counterpart, Mychal Rivera were particularly impressive at tight end in their first Senior Bowl practices. While the nearly 6-6, 269 pound Williams has always shown less than ideal foot speed, the 6-3 (and a 1/4), 237 pound former Tennessee Volunteer tight end wasn't able to consistently shake free from coverage. He did, however, show very good body control and ball skills to make a leaping catch against tight coverage midway through the practice that might have been the grab of the day. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

01/14/2013 - Tennessee tight end Mychal Rivera will join fellow Vol Dallas Thomas at the 2013 Senior Bowl on Jan. 26, 2013 in Mobile, Ala. The All-SEC pick will be the 120th Vol to play in the prestigious game taking place at Ladd-Pebbles Stadium and televised on the NFL Network.

Rivera became UT's first All-SEC coaches' first-team tight end since Jason Witten in 2002. The All-SEC AP second-team tight end set the record for receiving yards in a single-season by a Tennessee tight end with 562 yards, surpassing the Dallas Cowboys' Witten, who has 493 in 2002 with the Vols. Rivera closed his senior season with catches in 18 consecutive games. He posted career-highs with 10 catches for 129 yards against Missouri. Rivera had five receiving touchdowns as part of his career-best 36 catches. Rivera is the seventh Vol senior to be invited to a postseason all-star game this year. - Tennessee football
